75 g of a metal is heated to a temperature of 99C. The metal is then placed in a calorimeter containing 145 g of water at a temperature of 25C. The temperature of the water in the calorimeter increase to a final temperature of 28C. What is the specific heat of the metal?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

0.34 J / g ⁰C

Explanation:

Let the specific heat of metal be s .

heat will be lost by hot metal and gained by water .

heat lost by metal = mass x specific heat x loss of temperature

= 75 x s x ( 99 - 28 ) = 5325 s

heat gained by water = mass x specific heat x gain of temperature

= 145 x 4.18 x ( 28 - 25 ) = 1818.3

heat lost = heat gained

5325 s = 1818.3

s = 0.34 J / g ⁰C

Answer:

The number of atoms is the same in the reactants and in the products, and the total mass is the same in the reactants and in the products.

The statement best describes balancing equations and the law of conservation of mass is the number of atoms is the same in the reactants and in the products, and the total mass is the same in the reactants and in the products. Therefore, option B is correct.

What is the law of conservation of mass ?

According to the law of conservation of mass or principle of mass conservation, any system that is closed to all transfers of matter and energy must maintain a constant mass over time since the system's mass cannot vary and neither more nor less amount can be added or subtracted.

This law states that no matter what physical or chemical change occurs, the overall mass of the products and reactants remain identical.

Understanding and producing different chemical reactions depend heavily on this law. Researchers might anticipate how much the result would be if they knew the identities and quantities of the reactants for each reaction.

Thus, option B is correct.

Acetylsalicylic acid (C9H8O4) is a monoprotic acid commonly known as aspirin. A typical aspirin tablet, however, contains only a small amount of the acid. In an experiment to determine its composition, an aspirin tablet was crushed and dissolved in water. It took 14.40 mL of 0.1466 M NaOH to neutralize the solution. Calculate the number of grains of aspirin in the tablet. (One grain = 0.0648 g and the molar mass of aspirin = 180.2 g/mol.)

Answers

Answer:

6 grains

Explanation:

The equation of the reaction between NaOH and aspirin is;

C9H8O4(aq) + NaOH (aq) ------>C9H7O4Na(aq) + H2O(l)

Amount of NaOH reacted = concentration × volume = 0.1466 M × 14.40/1000 L = 2.11 × 10^-3 moles

Given that aspirin and NaOH react in a mole ratio of 1:1 from the balanced reaction equation above, the number of moles of aspirin reacted is 2.11 × 10^-3 moles

Hence mass of aspirin reacted = 2.11 × 10^-3 moles × 180.2 g/mol = 0.38 g

If 1 grain = 0.0648 g

x grains = 0.38 g

x= 0.38 g/0.0648 g

x= 6 grains

1. This experiment was to find how mass and speed effect KE. This is important because if you were in a situation where you needed something to go higher, you would know to add more or less of mass/speed.

To test mass, we filled the bean bag with a certain amount of water, then dropped it. After, you recorded how high it made the bean bag go. The same with speed, but same amount in the bottle, just dropped from different heights.

My hypothesis is when you have more mass, the KE will be greater. This is also the same with speed, if it is dropped from a higher place, the bean bag will launch farther than the last time.

2. Data I collected from the lab was like my hypothesis explained. When the height of the bottle increased, it made the bean bag go higher than the last. And I tested 4 different masses, 0.125 kg, 0.250kg, 0.375kg and 0.500kg. Each time the bean bag went higher on a larger mass.

A lot of times on the speed test, the bean bag would go higher than the bottle drop point, but not every time. Also, when it was dropped from the same height each time, some results varied quite a bit, like when it was dropped from 1.28 the results were 1.14 then 1.30 1.30. Mass on the other hand was all in the same number range, only once the numbers were a bit off from each other.

3.  Some formulas I used were KE= ½ mv^2 and Ht v^2/2g. The first was to calculate the kinetic energy of an object, m=mass v=speed. Second was for finding out what height I needed to drop something to reach a certain speed, Ht=Height and g= Gravitational Acceleration of 9.8 m/s^2.

I used these to figure out tables that showed relationships between different things like mass and KE or speed and height. The whole time I was doing the lab, my data was going up, when there was more mass/speed there were higher values in the table.

This means that my hypothesis at the beginning was correct, more of m/s means KE will increase proportionally because they are all linear. I found it surprising when the bean bag height went over the water bottle drop mark.

4.     To conclude, my hypothesis matched my data. The data values went up when more mass or speed was added. This means if I were in a situation where I needed more kinetic energy for something, I would know to increase mass or the speed of the object giving it energy.

The reason that this hypothesis is correct is when you have more mass, you have more energy. So, when you drop let's say a baseball, it isn’t that heavy so it would only launch the bean bag so far. But a bowling ball is very heavy and has lots of energy when falling because of that, it would make the bean bag go very high.

To make this experiment better, I would use a smoother material for the lever so energy wouldn’t be lost by friction from wood rubbing together. Also, maybe a scanner or video camera to more accurately record how far the bean bag went. All of these would help the lab get more precise results, maybe they could be used in a future lab.

Use more cations than anions so that the compound is positively charged. Use enough cations and anions so that the total charge is zero. Use fewer cations than anions so that the compound is negatively charged.
IT's C

Answers

Answer:

Option C: Use enough cations and anions so that the total charge is zero

Explanation:

In a stable ionic compound, to get a predict the formula, the positive and negative ions on one side need to cancel out so that the compound becomes neutral.

For example, let's take consider an ionic compound known as Potassium Chloride. It has a formula KCl. Now , breaking it down, the charges will be; K+ and Cl-. This means Potassium (K) has +1 charges and Chloride has -1 charges. Thus, they will cancel out to give a total neutral charge of 0.

Thus, the correct answer is to use enough a ions and cations so that the total charge is zero.

If the reaction yield is 88.2%,what mass in grams of hydrogen is produced by the reaction of 7.73 g of magnesium with 1.31 g of water
Mg + 2h2o >>mg(oh)2+h2

Answers

Answer:

Mass of hydrogen produced is 0.07g.

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of magnesium = 7.73 g

Mass of water = 1.31 g

Reaction yield = 88.2%

Mass of hydrogen produced = ?

Solution:

Chemical equation:

Mg + 2H₂O     →   Mg(OH)₂ + H₂

Number of moles of water:

Number of moles = mass/ molar mass

Number of moles = 1.31 g / 18 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.07 mol

Number of moles of magnesium:

Number of moles = mass/ molar mass

Number of moles = 7.73 g / 18 g/mol

Number of moles = 0.43 mol

Now we will compare the moles of water and magnesium with hydrogen.

                    Mg            :           H₂

                     1               :            1

                    0.43          :          0.43

                    H₂O          :             H₂

                   0.07           :            1/2×0.07 = 0.035

Mass of hydrogen:

Mass = number of moles × molar mass

Mass = 0.035 mol × 2 g/mol

Mass = 0.07  g

what always forms between two large air masses of different moisture and air temperature?

Answers

Answer:

"What always forms between two large air masses of different moisture and air temperature?"

Explanation:

When a cold air mass replaces a warm air mass the boundary between the two air masses is called a cold front. ... Fronts form at the boundary between air masses of different temperatures and moisture. Warm air always slopes upward over colder air.

The boundary between two air masses of different density such when it can not move called “stationary” “warm” when warmer air replaces cooler air.

What is density ?

The density  can be defined as  the mass per unit volume which means that it is the ratio between mass and volume, that means the object has  the  stuff  in a unit volume.

Density is determined by the matter where it shows how the matter is tightly crammed together and  it was put forwarded  by the Greek scientist Archimedes

To calculate the density of an object, the mass (m) can be divided by the volume (v)

Density = Mass/Volume

The different units include  SI unit of density which is kilogram per cubic meter (kg/m3) or in cgs unit of grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm3).

HOW A BILL BECOMES A LAWby USHistory.org2016Creating new laws is what the United States Congress is all about. However, many people criticize Congress for its inefficiency and the length of time that it takes for laws to be passed and enacted. For example, members of the 112th Congress (2011-2012) introduced 6,845 bills, but only 758 were passed. Thats 5%!The process of creating laws is long and difficult, but our nations founders intentionally set it up that way. Our founders didnt want a process where just a few people would have the power to quickly be able to make all the laws. Instead, they created many hurdles so that many people would have to agree on a law before it could be passed.Before a bill becomes a law it must pass both chambers of Congress and be signed into law by the president. It may begin its journey at any time, but it must be passed during the same Congressional session of its proposal (a period of one year).The two chambers of the United States Congress are called the House of Representatives and the Senate. The House has 435 members, and states with larger populations get a larger share of the representatives. States with relatively few people, like Vermont and Wyoming, each get only 1 representative, but Texas gets 36 representatives and California gets 53. The Senate is different. Each state no matter how big or small it is gets 2 Senators.For any bill to pass the House or the Senate, a few very important things must happen. First, the bill must pass through the relevant committee. For example, if there is a bill on farm subsidies,1 the bill is sent to the Agriculture Committee. In this committee, members can recommend changes, and the details of the bill can be edited. Once edits are finished, members of that committee vote to determine whether or not to send the bill to the floor for a vote. Roughly 90% of bills never actually make it out of their committee.If a majority of members support the bill in committee, then it is moved to the floor where there is a debate and a vote. Since the House has many more members, the debates are timed and members usually have just a few minutes to speak in favor of or in opposition to the bill. The Senate is different and much more complicated; Senators can debate an issue for a far longer amount of time. For example, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was debated for 60 days since some Senators didnt believe that bill should become a law. After the debates end, a vote is held, and majority rules.If a bill passes both the House and the Senate with a majority vote, the bill is then sent to a conference committee. A conference committee is formed to merge two versions of a bill one from the House and one from the Senate when the two houses cannot easily agree on revisions. The members of the conference committee must come up with a compromise. The revised bill then must go back to the floors of each house and be passed by both houses before it can be sent to the president.If the president agrees with the bill, he or she can sign it, and then it becomes a law. If the president disagrees with the bill, he or she can veto it. At that point, Congress can override the presidents veto if two-thirds of the members in the House and Senate vote to overturn the veto.As you can see, it is very hard to pass laws in America, but this can also help protect us from leaders who have bad ideas. Winston Churchill, the former Prime Minister of Great Britain once said, Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others. When he said this, he may have been thinking about Americas government!1. What is the central idea of this textA. Bills become laws once Congress has reviewed them.B.
