Write two speeches that compare and contrast Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi
with Frederick Douglass's Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American
Slave.
The first speech addresses a group of educated adults who are trying to decide which
work to read and discuss at their book club. Your job is not to recommend one of
these books over the other. Instead, you should analyze the style of each work in
order to help your listeners make the right choice for their reading interests. The
speech needs to be about five minutes long.
Your second speech should describe the same two works to a group of fifth-grade
students. Your goal is to tell them about the texts and to get them excited about
literature. This speech should be about one to three minutes long.
Both speeches need to be written out word for word so your teacher can see the
differences in language level and formality. When you present them in class, you
don't need to read them verbatim. You can just list points on note cards or use an
outline.

Mark Twain’s “Life on the Mississippi '' is a memoir of Mr. Twain’s experiences when he was a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River. This book is half a history book and half a memoir of his moments. He basically tells the story of the river, his personal story with the river, as well as the part it had on his life growing up.

It’s a different approach than Frederick Douglas, who wrote a memoir of his life as a slave. He also uses the Narrative to write a paper on abolishing slavery when he tells the reader his journey and battle to become a freeman. He pretty much used his book as a way to get his message about abolition, this is why he uses real names of people or places etc.

what is the significance of the dance that harrison performs with the ballerina? how does the style in which the story is written change in this passage?

Answers

The significance of the dance Harrison did with the ballerina was that Harrison was very graceful, almost too graceful considering his size. Him and the ballerina soared through the air, almost as if they were flying. This part of the story uses many adjectives that all mean 'soared' and this is different from the original style of the story because it is no longer about everyone being the same, but on the gracefulness of Harrison and the ballerina without their handicaps.

I hope this helps! I just read the story in English class a few days ago!

Answers

Answer:

The relative pronoun "that" is used with an essential clause and the relative pronoun "which" is used with a nonessential clause. In three to five sentences, explain when to use each pronoun and the difference between the two relative clauses.

Explanation:

I don't think so

The pronoun "that" precedes details about the noun that are essential, while the pronoun "which" precedes those that are non-essential or can be eliminated without changing the meaning of the sentence.

What is the difference between the two types of relative clauses?

In grammar, the function of "which" and "that" is to precede or introduce clauses, especially those that provide information about the noun.

Additionally, these two words differ slightly on their function because they introduce specific types of clauses.

Indeed, the use of "that" shows the information introduced is essential or cannot be eliminated as in the sentence "My sister that is living in Europe get married" because the detail "is living in Europe" is essential to define "My sister".

D: A biography of Franklin intended for a general audience.

A biography is an account of the life and affairs of a person. Walter Issacson wrote a biography of Benjamin in which recounted several aspects of his life.

For example, he made the statement, "Some who see the selection of Franklin in the world today fret about a shallowness of soul and a spiritual complacency that seem to permeate a culture of materialism."

This statement shows that the writer was recounting the style and ways of Benjamin Franklin and how the American public viewed him.

Thus, we can deduce that the passage is a biography of Benjamin Franklin that is meant for a general audience.
