Answers

By ideal gas approximation, the volume change is 230.2 liters.

We need to know about the ideal gas theory to solve this problem. The ideal gas is assumed that there is no interaction between particles in a gas. It can be determined by the equation

P . V = n . R . T

where P is pressure, V is volume, n is the number of moles gas, R is the ideal gas constant (8.31 J/mol.K) and T is temperature.

From the question above, we know that

n₁ = 1 mol

n₂ = 1 + 9 mol = 10 mol

P₁ = P₂ = 100 kPa = 100000 Pa

T₁ = 74⁰ C = 347 K

Find the initial volume

P₁ . V₁ = n₁ . R . T₁

100000 . V₁ = 1 . 8.31 . 347

V₁ = 0.0288 m³

When the initial and final temperature and pressure are the same, we can use the ratio of the number of moles and volume as

V₁ / n₁ = V₂ / n₂

0.0288 / 1 = V₂ / 9

V₂ = 0.25952 m³

V₂ = 259.52 liters

The volume change is

ΔV = V₂ - V₁

ΔV = 259.52 - 28.8

ΔV = 230.2 liters

at standard pressure, water has unusual properties that are due to both its molecular structure and intermolecular forces. for example, although most liquids contract when they freeze, water expands, making ice less dense than liquid water. water has a much higher boiling point than most other molecular compounds having a similar gram-formula mass. determine the total amount of heat, in joules, required to completely vaporize a 50.0-gram sample of h2o( ) at its boiling point at standard pressure.

Answers

The heat required to vaporize this sample at standard pressure is 113,270 J.

We can calculate the amount of heat (Q) needed to vaporize 50.0 grams of water by using water's heat of vaporization (q) at 100 °C (boiling point of water) - 40.8 kJ/mol, and the number of moles of water (n).

Q = n * q

The heat of vaporization describes the amount of energy needed to be introduced to a single mol of water at 100 °C to break the intermolecular interactions between molecules of water so it changes to a gaseous state.

To calculate the number of moles of water, we are going to use the mass of water (m = 50.0 g) and its molar mass (M = 18.01 g/mol):

n = m/M

n = 50.0 g / 18.01 g/mol

n = 2.7762 mol

Now we can calculate the amount of heat needed:

Q = 2.7762 mol * 40.9 kJ/mol

Q = 113.27 kJ

Q = 113,270 J

When you see iron (II) that means iron with 2 valence electrons, so what will the
charge be?

Answers

Answer:

2+

Explanation:

Ions are separated into cations and anions.

Oxidation State

The roman numeral after iron represents the oxidation state. The oxidation state shows the hypothetical charge of an atom. Since iron can have different oxidation states, it needs to be noted using a roman numeral. Iron can either be iron (II) or iron (III), which have a 2+ and 3+ charge, respectively.

Cations

Ions are atoms that have negative or positive charges. Negative ions are called anions, and positive ions are called cations. Atoms that have almost full valence shells (5-7 valence electrons) take electrons and become anions. Atoms that have almost empty valence shells (1-3 valence electrons) lose electrons and become cations.

Iron (II) has 2 valence shell electrons, so it will be a cation. When it bonds, it will lose both valence electrons. Since atoms gain a 1+ charge for every electron it loses, iron (II) will have a 2+ charge.

In 1909, scientist ernest rutherford directed a stream of high speed alpha particles at a thin piece of gold foil. Some of the particles passed through, some were deflected, and some bounced straight back. This result caused rutherford to conclude that.

Answers

The result of the experiment caused Rutherford to conclude that the atom mostly was made of the empty spaces and had a positively charged nucleus in it.

Rutherford assaulted extremely thin sheets of gold foil with swiftly moving alpha (∝) particles, along with his colleagues Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden. Positively charged alpha particles have a mass that is around four times that of a hydrogen atom.

The majority of the alpha-particles, they discovered, were undeflected, and only a small percentage were bounced off the gold foil at extremely enormous angles. Some were even sent back in the direction of the source.

Rutherford thought about these findings and came to the following conclusion: The fact that the majority of alpha particles passed straight through the foil is proof that the atom is primarily made up of empty space. It was determined that there is a concentration of positive charge in the atom based on the small number of alpha particles that were deflected at large angles.

How will you show that carbon dioxide is havier than air?

Answer:

There's an experiment that you can try to see if carbon dixide is heavier than air.

Explanation:

At room temperature, carbon dioxide has higher density (ρ = 1.98 kg·m -3) than air (ρ = 1.29 kg·m -3). The density of gas, however, significantly depends on its temperature. Carbon dioxide produced by burning has higher temperature than the surrounding air.

Why is CO2 heavier than the air?

Short answer is CO2 is heavier than ambient air, but it does not drift to the ground as there is a lot of mixing going on in ambient air. ... Carbon dioxide, also known by the chemical formula CO2, has a higher density than the other gases found in air, which makes CO2 heavier than the air.

A compound of bromine and fluorine is used to make uf6, which is an important chemical in processing and reprocessing of nuclear fuel. The compound contains 58. 37 mass percent bromine. Determine its empirical formula.

Answers

Empirical formula of the compound of bromine and fluorine is used to make UF₆ is Brf₃.

The compound contains 58.37% of Bromine.

For simplicity, let us assume that the mass of the compound made up of bromine and Fluorine is 100g.

Now the contents of Bromine and fluorine in the compound are 58.37g and 41.63g.

To find the empirical formula of the compound. we have to follow the certain set of rules.

Step1. Calculating the number of moles of each and every element present in the compound.

Mole = Given mass/molar mass

mole of Br = 58.37/79.9

moles of Br = 0.73 moles.

and

moles of F = 41.63/19

mole of F = 2.19 moles.

Step2. Calculating the molar ratios of each and every compound.

molar ratio is calculated by dividing the moles of all element with moles of element with least moles

Molar ratio of Br = 0.73/0.73 = 1

Molar ratio of F = 2.19/0.73 = 3

Step3. Making the molar Ratio itself the number of atom of that element in the compound.

Here, 1 atom of Br and 3 atoms of F.

Answers

Two different samples of the matter are measured in each of these glass containers. Both of the containers show same measure for both samples of matter. The samples most likely have in common is their volume.

What is volume?

Each thing in three dimensions takes up some space. The volume of this area is what is being measured. The space occupied within an object's borders in the three dimensions is referred to as its volume. It is sometimes referred to as object's capacity.

Volume is a measurement of the three-dimensional space that is occupied.

Numerous imperial units or the SI-derived units, such as the cubic meter and liter, are frequently used to quantify it numerically (such as the gallon, quart, cubic inch). Volume and length (cubed) have symbiotic relationship. The volume of container is typically thought of as its capacity, not as the amount of space it takes up. In other words, volume is the amount of fluid (liquid or gas) that the container may hold.

Volume was initially measured using naturally occurring containers of a similar shape and later with the standardized containers. Arithmetic formulas can be used to quickly calculate volume of some straightforward three-dimensional shapes. If a formula for shape's boundary is known, it is possible to use integral calculus to determine the volumes of more complex shapes. No object in dimensions of zero, one, or two has volume; in the dimensions of four and higher, the hypervolume is a concept similar to the normal volume.

Good Diet, Proper Exercise Help Protect Astronauts' Bonesby Bill Jeffs1 Eating right and exercising hard in space helps protect International Space Station astronauts bones, a finding that may help solve one of the key problems facing future explorers heading beyond low Earth orbit.2 A study, published in the September 2012 issue of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, looked at the mineral density of specific bones as well as the entire skeleton of astronauts who used a new, stronger "weight lifting" machine. Of course, weights don't really "weigh" anything on the space station but resistance machines allow astronauts to get the same kind of workout. The Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED), installed in 2008, doubles the maximum simulated weight to as much as 600 pounds.3 Researchers compared measurements from 2006 until 2008, when astronauts used a less capable workout machine. They found that astronauts using the advanced system came home with more lean muscle and less fat, and kept more of their whole body and regional bone mineral density. Those same astronauts also consumed sufficient calories and vitamin D, among other nutrients. These factors are known to support bone health and likely played a contributing role.4 "After 51 years of human spaceflight, these data mark the first significant progress in protecting bone through diet and exercise," said Dr. Scott M. Smith, NASA nutritionist at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston and lead author of the publication.5 Since the 1990s, resistance exercise has been thought to be a key method of protecting astronauts' bones. Normal, healthy bone constantly breaks down and renews itself, a process called remodeling. As long as these processes are in balance, bone mass and density stay the same. Earlier studies of Russian Mir space station residents found an increased rate of breakdown, but little change in the rate of regrowth, resulting in an overall loss in bone density.6 In the study, astronauts who used the ARED device still had increased bone breakdown, but their bone renewal tended to increase, likely resulting in a better balance in whole bone mineral density.7 "The increase in both bone breakdown and formation suggests that the bone is being remodeled, but a key question remains as to whether this remodeled bone is as strong as the bone before flight," said Dr. Jean Sibonga, NASA bone discipline lead at Johnson and coauthor of the study.8 Bone density loss in astronauts on long-duration missions has been a major medical concern. In the past, astronauts have lost an average of 1 to 2 percent per month. By comparison, an elderly person loses about 1 to 2 percent per year.9 This study shows that, through proper exercise and nutrition, crew members on long journeys in space can return to Earth with much less loss of bone mineral density. But a key question remains as to whether the bones are as strong as when the astronaut launched into space. For these and other reasons, additional studies to evaluate bone strength before and after flight are currently under way.10 Beyond bone strength, further study is needed to figure out the best possible combination of exercise and diet for long-duration crews. One experiment on the space station right now is looking at how different ratios of animal protein and potassium in the diet affect bone health. Another is looking at the benefits of lowering sodium intake. NASA food scientists have reformulated more than 80 space foods to reduce the sodium content.11 "Although more research needs to be done in this regard, our study marks a significant milestone in our long search to find ways to help ensure crew health and performance on long-duration missions," said Smith. "These data will be critical in enabling us to send humans, once again, to destinations beyond low Earth orbit."
