The model designed by Armando will be helpful to answer the question because of the following features it possesses:

1. An adjustable leg- since one of the hypotheses put forward by the class to explain why the river was narrow and deep was that the hill that the water flowed down was very steep, the adjustable legs can be lowered or raised in order to make the slope shallower or steeper so that their hypothesis can be tested.

2. A table of sand- the table of sand serves as the streambed. By adjusting the size of the sand grains to be larger or smaller, the students will be able to to test their second hypothesis that the small size sand grains that the water flowed through was the reason for the river to be narrow and deep.

The results of their experiments will enable them to come to a conclusion.

Which one is odd factor that determine population distribution

Select one:
a. Natural vegetation
b. Climate
c. Relief
d. Stages of economic development

Answers

Population distribution is a term used to describe how humans are spread across the Earth. Population distribution across the Earth is uneven. Some areas are densely populated where as others are sparsely populated. The land surface of the Earth accounts for around 30% of its area. However, only around 11% of the land surface can be comfortably inhabited by humans. There are many human and physical factors that affect population distribution and population density across the world. Physical factors that affect population density include water supply, climate, relief (shape of the land), vegetation, soils and availability of natural resources and energy. Human factors that affect population density include social, political and economic factors. The main factors determining population distribution are : climate, landforms, topography, soil, energy and mineral resources, accessibility like distance from sea coast, natural harbours, navigable rivers or canals, cultural factors, political boundaries, controls on migration and trade, government policies, types of ... Physical factors that affect population distribution include altitude and latitude, relief, climate, soils, vegetation, water and location of mineral and energy resources. ... Death rates – Level of medical provision. What is population distribution?
Population distribution means the pattern of where people live. World population distribution is uneven. Places which are sparsely populated contain few people. Places which are densely populated contain many people. Sparsely populated places tend to be difficult places to live. These are usually places with hostile environments e.g. Antarctica. The environment in Antarctica makes it a very challenging location to live, with cold temperatures, lack of vegetation and geographical isolation few people live here.

Places which are densely populated are habitable environments e.g. Western Europe and the East Coast of the USA. This can be the result of flat relief, a favourable climate, availability of natural resources and fresh water. Population distribution is also uneven within a country. Locations with favourable conditions are generally more densely populated compared to those in more challenging environments. For example, North Wales has a lower population density than South Wales. In the north the relief is mountainous around Snowdonia, however, in the south, the relief is flat and can be easily built on.

Population distribution is often shown on a map. It can be shown on a dot map, as below, or choropleth map. Answer: Climate.

PRO & CON OF PROHIBITION(alcohol)
FIND 2 PRO & 2 CON ARGUMENTS

Answers

Answer:

pros- Addiction: Prohibition of alcohol limits and/or prevents alcohol addiction. This particular addiction can easily ruin people’s lives, including their jobs, their friends, their families, and obviously themselves too.

Health: Alcohol, especially in large quantities, can damage people’s kidneys and livers, and can eventually lead to death.

cons- Freedom of Choice: People should have the freedom of choice to decide to drink alcohol or not, as long as that freedom does not infringe on the freedoms of other people. Therefore, a law prohibiting alcohol would remove the freedom of choice.

Victimless Crime: Similarly to the previous reason, people should be free to harm themselves. Alcohol addiction is considered a victimless crime, since it primarily affects the alcoholics. While it does affect the people around alcoholics, it does not directly affect them. People can always keep their distance from or leave alcoholics, if they choose.

How do you think migration impacted the celebration of the Lunar New Year in London, England?

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

London, as the English city, started mostly as a place for British people who celebrate New Year by Gregorian calendar, meaning starting with January 1st. However, East Asian people follow the Lunar calendar, and their New Year celebration takes place during the first new moon of the first lunar month (date falls usually from January 21 to February 21 of Georgian calendar).

Chinese people, mainly began migrating to Britain around 1800, while the second wave was around the mid 20th century. By moving to London, they started making their communities and Chinatowns, where they could follow their traditions and religions. This meant celebrating Lunar New Year as well. As the population of Chinese migrants increased, the celebration of Lunar new year began to be bigger and transferred from home to the streets. Today, there is even a celebration of the Lunar new year on Trafalgar Square.

Yet, for some Chinese migrants, this is not New Year as they know it. Chinatown and Chinese festivals have become tourist attractions, as London is a very popular tourist destination. Therefore festivals became public events, even though Lunar New Year is quieter than Westerners know it. Chinese people in China mainly spend the holiday at home with families, celebrate by taking a vacation, and staying in. This is why the new wave of Chinese migrants are mainly spending the Lunar new year at home, sometimes talking online with their families back home, and not participating in the big public festival that has increased with globalization.

Where did most progressive reforms begin in American society

Answers

Important Examples of Progressive Reforms
(Progressive Era: approx. 1890s-1920)

Settlement House Movement White, upper-middle class, college-educated women who wanted to make a difference in society created and worked at settlement houses, which were like community centers in inner-city, immigrant neighborhoods. They wanted to improve the lives of slum-dwellers by providing education and child care, teaching English and other basic skills, helping the immigrants get better jobs and housing, and uplifting them culturally (art & music appreciation.) Part of the mission of the settlement house workers was Americanization of immigrants to teach the immigrants WASP middle-class values. The most famous settlement house was Hull House in Chicago, led by Jane Addams. Black middle-class women ran separate settlement houses for fellow African-Americans illustrating the racial segregation of the Progressive movement.

Housing and Sanitation Reforms Progressive reformers urged cities to pass legislation which set standards for housing (to try to eliminate the worst tenements) and such sanitation matters as garbage pick-up and sewage systems. The legislation would require the hiring of inspectors to see that these standards were met. Many of the inspectors first hired by city governments under these reforms were women, such as Jane Addams.

Beautification Campaigns Some reformers wanted to improve the urban environment by making it more pleasant and attractive. This, like the housing reforms, was based on their idea that an improved environment meant improved people. (This idea was a rejection of Social Darwinism.) Some of their reforms included parks, civic centers, and better transportation systems. Some historians argue that these were superficial reforms enacted to please the middle-class inhabitants or tourists of cities, but did not really address the dire problems of the masses who lived in the slums.

Anti-Prostitution Campaign Progressives were responsible for the Mann Act (1910), which prohibited interstate transportation of women for immoral purposes. By 1915, nearly every state had outlawed prostitution.

Woman suffrage This was the movement to secure for women the right to vote. Many different kinds of women (race, class, and ethnicity) joined the campaign to win the federal amendment, but the movement was mainly led by WASP middle and upper-class women.

Factory Safety Regulations, Limits on Working Hours (mainly for women), Workers Compensation for injuries, Restrictions on Women and Child Labor - While labor unions sought these measures by organizing workers to bargain with their employers, a tense alliance between some middle-class and working-class reformers also sought these reforms by passing laws (government intervention instead of collective bargaining.) These reformers were successful in convincing most states to pass factory inspection laws, workers comp, and minimum age of employment laws. Some states passed laws limiting the number of hours women (but not men) could work. These regulations were usually difficult to enforce; many employers found ways to evade them.
Another problem was that some working-class families wanted their women and children to work in order to make as much money for the family as possible (in order to survive) and did not appreciate reforms that restricted women and child labor. Many middle-class reformers did not understand this reaction. Many middle-class reformers believed that the working class should adopt WASP middle-class values, which included the value that women and children should not work for wages.
Moreover, even though they wanted to improve conditions for workers, many middle-class reformers were suspicious of (or hostile to) labor unions because they felt threatened by the idea of working-class autonomy, or working-class solidarity. They were much more comfortable with the idea of the middle class generously bestowing labor reforms upon the downtrodden workers, which is a paternalistic attitude. Working-class reformers, including socialists, recognized this condescending attitude and were uneasy about working with middle-class reformers to ahiceve labor legislation, though they often swallowed hard and did anyway. There were, however, some examples of fairly harmonious organizations that brought working-class and middle-class reformers together to help workers.

Temperance, then Prohibition Progressive reformers focused their fight against the consumption of alcohol on the saloons. Saloons were a major center of immigration.....
