What point of view does Jefferson Davis express in this excerpt from his inaugural address?

The declared purpose of the compact of Union from which we have withdrawn was "to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessing of liberty to ourselves and our posterity;" and when, in the judgment of the sovereign States now composing this Confedera cy, it had been per verted from the purposes for which it was ordained, and had ceased to answer the ends for which it was established, a peaceful appeal to the ballot-box declared that so far as they were concerned, the government created by that compact should cease to exist. In this they merely asserted a right which the Declaration of Independence of 1776 had defined to be inalienable. The right solemnly proclaimed at the birth of the States, and which has been affirmed and reaffirmed in the bills of rights of States subsequently admitted into the Union of 1789, undeniably recognize in the people the power to resume the authority delegated for the purposes of government. Edgar Allen Poe uses repetition, he uses it wisely causing a sense of suspense. For example he repeats "quote the raven Nevermore" after most of the stanzas he uses it as a way to show us his loss of sanity. In the story "The Tell-Tale Heart" he uses the phrase "a watch when it's developed in cotton" he uses it when he even mentions a heartbeat. The importance of this Bridge in its far-reaching effects at once entices and baffles the imagination. At either end of the Bridge lies a great city – cities full of vigorous life. The activities and the energies of each flow over into the other. The electric current has conveyed unchecked between the two the interchanging thoughts, but the rapid river has ever bidden halt to the foot of man. It is as though the population of these cities had been brought down to the river-side, year after year, there to be taught patience; and as though, in this Bridge, after these many years, patience had had her perfect work. The ardent merchant, the busy lawyer, the impatient traveler – all, without distinction and without exception – at the river have been told to wait. No one can compute the loss of time ensuing daily from delays at the ferries to the multitudes crossing the stream. And time is not only money – it is opportunity. Brooklyn becomes available, henceforth, as a place of residence to thousands, to whom the ability to reach their places of business without interruption from fog and ice is of paramount importance. To all Brooklyn's present citizens a distinct boon is given.

Than there was ever any hope,

My father built, enclosed a spring,

Strung chains of wall round everything,

Subdued the growth of earth to grass

And brought our various lives to pass.

A dozen girls and boys we were.

The mountain seemed to like the stir,

And made of us a little while–

With always something in her smile.

THE MATCH

There never was a time when the world was without fire, but there was a time when men did not know how to kindle fire; and after they learned how to kindle one, it was a long, long time before they learned how to kindle one easily. In these days we can kindle a fire without any trouble, because we can easily get a match; but we must remember that the match is one of the most wonderful things in the world, and that it took men thousands of years to learn how to make one. Let us learn the history of this familiar little object, the match.

Fire was first given to man by nature itself. When a forest is set on fire by cinders from a neighboring volcano, or when a tree is set ablaze by a thunderbolt, we may say that nature strikes a match. In the early history of the world, nature had to kindle all the fires, for man by his own effort was unable to produce a spark. The first method, then, of getting fire for use was to light sticks of wood at a flame kindled by nature—by a volcano, perhaps, or by a stroke of lightning. These firebrands were carried to the home and used in kindling the fires there. The fire secured in this way was carefully guarded and was kept burning as long as possible. But the flame, however faithfully watched, would sometimes be extinguished. A sudden gust of wind or a sudden shower would put it out. Then a new firebrand would have to be secured, and this often meant a long journey and a deal of trouble.

In 1827, John Walker, a druggist in a small English town, tipped a splint with sulphur, chlorate of potash, and sulphid of antimony, and rubbed it on sandpaper, and it burst into flame. The druggist had discovered the first friction-chemical match, the kind we use to-day. It is called friction-chemical because it is made by mixing certain chemicals together and rubbing them. Although Walker's match did not require the bottle of acid, nevertheless it was not a good one. It could be lighted only by hard rubbing, and it sputtered and threw fire in all directions. In a few years, however, phosphorus was substituted on the tip for antimony, and the change worked wonders. The match could now be lighted with very little rubbing, and it was no longer necessary to have sandpaper upon which to rub it. It would ignite when rubbed on any dry surface, and there was no longer any sputtering. This was the phosphorus match, the match with which we are so familiar.

SHARKS' TEETH
Langston Carter

The day we found the sharks' teeth was foggy and cool. Moisture hung in the air so thick you could almost see it sparkling in the dim sunlight. There were days, early in the summer like this one, where it seemed there was more water in the air than in the bay. We had beached the boat and stepped out on the recently cleared spit of land. The ground had a light dusting of white sand over an under layer of dried black mud. It looked like a recently frosted chocolate cake, though the frosting was spread a bit thin for my taste. The ground was solid, but we knew from experience that it was full of fiddler crab holes, and would be underwater at the first super-high tide. Mysteriously, to us anyway, someone wanted to build a house there.

We often came to these spots to look for artifacts. Our beach, our summer home, had been a fishing camp for as long as anyone living could remember. The oldest stories told of travelers coming down to the edge of the sea, lining up to fill their wagon beds with salted fish to take back home. Old decaying cabins still lined the beach. Rotting nets, hung out to dry in the last century, decorated their weathered walls. Their broken faces spun stories in our minds. The fishermen who, tanned and wrinkled from sun and salt, hauled their nets full of splashing mullet in to cheers from the waiting crowds. The bounty of the sea lightened everyone's hearts, and the smell of roasting fish filled the damp air. Women fanned themselves from wagon seats. Children splashed in the shallow edges of the bay. It was a scene we had acted out as youngsters, building an imaginary bridge to a life we would never fully know.

What inference can be made about ukuleles?

The first ukuleles were developed in Hawaii in the 1800s, as a result of Portuguese influence. Native Hawaiians enjoyed music from a Portuguese instrument called the machete and adapted it to suit Hawaiian tastes. The ukulele soon spread to mainland America during the 1910s, where it became an immediate sensation. They quickly became very popular because they could be quickly and cheaply made from a small amount of wood. After the World Wars, plastic ukuleles revitalized the declining ukulele fad by making them even more affordable to the average American. Today, ukuleles are still enjoyed by many enthusiasts and come in a wide variety of shapes and sounds.

Ukuleles are less expensive than many other instruments.

Additionally, the affordability and accessibility of ukuleles have likely contributed to their popularity, as they can be made from inexpensive materials and are relatively easy to learn to play.

The most effected people are immigrant children.

Countless children and teens are being seperated from their family, or moving without a choice. Today's immigrant children face grueling challenges that might effect their life. Immigrant children might be traveling alone, which is very dangerous. Even if the children are immigrating with their family, the language barrier will still be a problem. In addition, they might not have studied english are any other language before moving. As a result, this causes massive trouble and they will not be able to do things like attending school, finding jobs, or interviews. Therefore, immigrating now is very challening and difficult.

Another challenge that immigrant kids face is that they had to ride boats for days or weeks sometimes even months. Kids today still take boats but most take planes or cars. Following, they had to go through many medical tests, as well as filling out things like insurance and medical care. Furthermore, the reason they had to do this was to make sure that did not have any diseases. Getting tested for diseases is still around today. Also, when you have arrived to where your destination, you had to stand in long lines to be processed in with passports and IDs.

To sum it up, immigrating for children is very hard and you can encounter difficult situations that you might not know how to fix.

Answer:

An example of an urban legend includes Mythology. My example of Mythology is about the Greek Gods. Zeus, the ruler of the universe,  is one of the most important characters. Hades, the oldest, is the ruler of the UnderWorld, where all the mortals go to when they die. I find this interesting because why is Hades the oldest child, not the ruler of the universe?

I read a book about it, and it was Hades' point of view. So apparently, the Gods played cards to see who would win, and Zeus cheated, but no one could do anything about it.  Hades didn't even want to rule, so everyone was content about it. I still find it unfair that Zeus is the ruler of the universe instead of Hades.  Shouldn't the oldest get the privileges? Also, Hades couldn't do anything because he swore on River Styx that he would protect his brothers from harm.

The story of Hades and Persephone was also wrong. P-phone wanted to run away to Hades, but Hades didn't know that. She sat on the end of his carriage without his knowledge and ended up in the Underworld. Hades never stole Persephone away. That's just some Myth-O-maniacs, just like Hades said. You should read those books.

essay on what a life is to you

Answers

Answer:

What life is to me?

Explanation:

It’s one thing to be alive, but it’s another to actually be living. As humans, we have the choice to go through the motions, watching the days go by, or we can really embrace the life around us. It’s easier than you think to fall into the routine of the first option.

I’m not going to lie, I’ve lived a majority of my life that way. However recently I’ve been making a conscious effort to wake up each morning with a new goal: to actually live my life. I want to experience it all. I want to experience happiness from everything around me, big and small. However, with this mindset, I have to expect to have my share of misfortune-- that is part of living. Something I’ve come to realize is that I cannot have the mindset that life is only full of happy things. The reality is, it isn’t. But this doesn’t mean I can’t live a happy life. It’s completely possible to live a happy life while dealing with problems. That’s one huge lesson I’ve learned.

Life is the little things. There are so many things that we all experience. We all turn 18, we all go to college, we all get married, etc. These are big things. They don’t differentiate us, though. Some people, including myself once, mistakenly defined life by milestones. Granted, these milestones are very important. But what often gets forgotten are those little things. The things that make us who we are, the things that make those milestones all the more special.
