The Civil War caused a huge divide in American politics. A lot of buildings got burned down and people were arguing about the McClellan and Lincoln debate. The Confederate States from the South that left the U.S. created their own form of government, where they applied their own rules, and ignored the Unions requested. Lincoln wanted there to be peace within the states as well as for the war to be over. All he wants to do is make people happy and take care of the soldiers who fought in the war.

Both the North and the South had a lot of expenses after the war. In the North it totaled about 3,366 million dollars, and in the South, it totaled about 3,286 million dollars. So therefore, the North spent about 80 million dollars more than the South.  The Union spent way more on government expenditures and the loss of the human capital than the Confederates did.  The amount of soldiers and people lost cost much more in the North, most likely because they had more soldiers than the South leaving them having to pay more. In fact, more Americans died in the Civil War, than in all other wars in U.S. history.

The Pony Express

Chapter 1

At A Nation's Crisis

The Pony Express was the first rapid transit and the first fost mail line across the continent from the Missouri River to the Pacific Coast. It was a system

by means of which messages were carried swiftly on horseback across the plains and deserts, and over the mountains of the far West It brought the

Adontic coost and the Pacific slope ten days nearer to each other.

It had a brief existence of only sixteen months and was supplanted by the transcontinental telegraph. Yet it was of the greatest importance in

binding the East and West together at a time when overland travel was slow and cumbersome, and when a great national crisis made the rapid

communication of news between these sections an imperative necessity.

The Pony Express marked the highest development in overland travel prior to the coming of the Pacific railroad, which it preceded nine years.

It, in fact, proved the feasibility of a transcontinental road and demonstrated that such a line could be built and operated continuously the year

around-a feat that had always been regarded as impossible.

The operation of the Pony Express was a supreme achievement of physical endurance on the part of man and his ever faithful companion, the

horse. The history of this organization should be a lasting monument to the physical sacrifice of man and beast in an effort to accomplish

something worthwhile. Its history should be an enduring tribute to American courage and American organizing genius.

Term life is “pure” insurance, whereas straight life adds a cash value component that you can tap during your lifetime. Term coverage only protects you for a limited number of years, while straight life provides lifelong protection—if you can keep up with the premium payments.

The primary difference between straight life and term insurance is the duration of the policy. A whole life insurance policy ends when you die, while a term life insurance policy lasts for a pre-determined period of time. Another important distinction of straight life policy is the cash value that accumulates over time.

The idea was pretty simple. You'd start reading and then a few pages into the book, there would be a plot development that required a choice. The book might describe that you've entered a spooky house and the door has locked behind you. It would then ask you if you want to try to exit by going through the kitchen or exploring upstairs. If you chose to go into the kitchen, you'd turn to page 200, if you chose to go upstairs, you'd turn to page 43. This would repeat maybe five or six times though the book. You could re-read it a few times and try different outcomes. In this lab you are going to create a choose your own adventure application using navigation controllers. The introduction screen to your application will contain a few lines of text to set up a story and then leave the user with a choice. Below the text, you will present two buttons that correspond to the different choices. For example, you might see the following text on the main screen:You are walking down the street when a tiger runs up and takes your lunch and then runs away...Do you want to chase the tiger or run away?ChaseRun AwayThe user must then tap one of the buttons. This will move the user to a new screen with a few more lines of the story and another choice and two more buttons. You will create three (3) turning points in your story. This means that your story will have eight (8) different possible outcomes and a total of 15 screens.RequirementsThe story must ask three (3) questions, no matter how the user answers the previous question. All the questions must be different and result in a different story text. The story must have eight (8) possible different final outcomes. The story must include a minimum of 15 screens in total.Create content that is appropriate and not-offensive. We will share these and play them together. For extra credit you can add an extra screen and use inputs to capture data from the user such as a name, favorite food, or lucky number and use this data in the story.
