4. The best definition of the COLD WAR is.
a cooperation between the world super-powers
b)world acceptance of communism
c)tension and hostility between the super-powers
d)armed conflict between the super-powers
Answer:
C
Explanation:
D is a tough one to get rid of. There wasn't armed conflict between the superpowers, but there were proxy wars. Egypt was armed by the Soviet Union and Israel by the United States. It was sort of like participating in a football match. You get rid of D only by stating that the conflict was not direct.
The superpowers did not have a policy of cooperation. A is utterly incorrect.
There was no acceptance of Communism. 2 wars (Korean Vietnam) were fought to contain communism. B is wrong
C is the correct answer.
Answer:
c)tension and hostility between the super-powers
Explanation:
The best definition of the COLD WAR is tension and hostility between the super-powers

If a Bill was made and this Bill helped prevent racism against Asians bc of the pandemic
Would the Bill be made into a law? Yes or no?
Answer:
what? no? maybe yes? this question does not make sense. whomever assigned this question is... lacking intellectual abilities (can't say the word because brainly gets mad at me).
Explanation:
A bill is a passing of a law by Congress to enact a rule (like a bill to increase minimum wage). If somehow there was a bill that could help against racism against Asians (which is impossible, as that is not how racism, the world, common sense, and bills work), it would technically be made into a law as that is what a bill is. Although this is completely nonsensical and unrealistic.
If the person who gave you this question is a certified teacher or somebody working in the education department, please report them or speak up about how completely nonsensical this question is.
Why has it been difficult to pass laws regarding transportation?
Like Minnesota, Virginia has also faced difficulties in how to budget the money for transportation. Improving transportation seems to be causing the General Assembly much debate. Should Virginia impose more taxes to meet the transportation needs of the state? Governor Timothy M. Kaine believes they should. He is asking the legislature for a $1 billion increase in taxes to do just this. While he’s not pushing PRT’s in his state, he has ambitious goals to improve roads and bridges, eliminate congestion, and expand hurricane escape routes.
Unfortunately, the track record for this kind of tax increase is not a good one. Since 2003, Virginia has denied 62 bills for a sales tax increase, eight bills to raise the car sales tax, and two attempts to increase grantor’s tax on home sellers.
Other tax increases initiated by legislators in Virginia have not been successful either. The attempt to raise the gas tax has been rejected 31 times since 2003, and the eight bills to raise the recordation tax paid when a new home is being built have been turned down as well. The GOP leaders adamantly oppose these new taxes, and most of these bills have died in the House of Delegates.
a.
it would cause too much of a tax increase

"As the Secretary-General and others have argued, if U.N. peacekeeping is to be a sound security investment for our nation and for other U.N. members, it must adapt to new times. Together we must prepare U.N. peacekeeping for the 21st century. We need to begin by bringing the rigors of military and political analysis to every U.N. peace mission.
In recent weeks in the Security Council, our Nation has begun asking harder questions about proposals for new peacekeeping missions: Is there a real threat to international peace? Does the proposed mission have clear objectives? Can an end point be identified for those who will be asked to participate? How much will the mission cost? From now on, the United Nations should address these and other hard questions for every proposed mission before we vote and before the mission begins.”
President Bill Clinton, addressing the United Nations about peacekeeping missions, 1993

"It is 15 years since the genocide of over a million Rwandan Tutsis and moderate Hutus. The ramifications of this tragedy are felt by genocide survivors, their children and Rwandans everywhere. We gather here today to honour the memory of the victims and reflect upon the challenges faced by survivors. The 15th Commemoration of the Genocide in Rwanda was marked earlier today at Nyanza, Kicukiro. In April 1994 about five thousand men, women and children had sought refuge with the Belgian contingent of the United Nations peacekeeping force, based at the E.T.O (a technical school), near Nyanza-Kicukiro. Even though they were surrounded by their killers, the UN force withdrew, leaving them to be slaughtered by Interahamwe militias and the then Rwandan Armed Forces. This site symbolises the international community’s failure in Rwanda and serves as a warning to world leaders of the consequences of ignoring the propagation of ethnic or religious hatred and of failing and abdicating their responsibility to protect people from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.”
Rwandan professor Joseph Nsengimana, speaking to the United Nations on the anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, 2009
How did the events described in Source 2 influence world powers’ stance on foreign intervention in the late 1990s and early 2000s?
The use of military force to prevent humanitarian crises increased.
The international community further limited peacekeepers' roles.
World powers contributed more troops to United Nations peacekeeping forces.
Less-developed countries could no longer rely on outside forces to protect innocent lives.
Answer:
World powers contributed more troops to United Nations peacekeeping forces
Explanation:
According to both Source 1 and Source 2, it is described that the UN peacekeeping has come under increased scrutiny based on how they acted or failed to act in peacekeeping missions.
In Source 2, Rwandan professor Joseph Nsengimana spoke on how the UN soldiers allowed the local militia to maim and murder over 3 million people in the Rwandan genocide and how they let the Rwandan people down.
The events described in Source 2 influenced world powers’ stance on foreign intervention in the late 1990s and early 2000s by making them contribute more troops to United Nations peacekeeping forces.

Which BEST explains why photojournalism did not emerge until the Civil War? Camera technology had to become portable and create quality images. The Civil War was the first war to receive widespread coverage in the press.
Answer:
Camera technology had to become portable and create quality images.
Explanation:
Before the Civil War, cameras were big and bulky. They could not just be pulled out and used to snap a picture. They had to be set up and it was a whole process. However, once the civil war came around cameras were more portable and easier to use.

Which of these photographs best captures your idea of what World War I combat was really like? Explain in at least 3 sentences.
Answer:
The loss of life was greater than in any previous war in history, in part because militaries were using new technologies, including tanks, airplanes, submarines, machine guns, modern artillery, flamethrowers, and poison gas. ... These trenches came to symbolize a new kind of warfare.
The immediate cause of World War I that made the aforementioned items come into play (alliances, imperialism, militarism, nationalism) was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. In June 1914, a Serbian-nationalist terrorist group called the Black Hand sent groups to assassinate the Archduke.
When troops went over the top, they usually fixed bayonets and moved out from their trenches in a series of organized waves. ... Once in enemy trenches, fighting became little more than a deadly brawl with soldiers using rifles, pistols, bayonets, trench knives, clubs, and shovels to kill each other.

Global Processes and Conflicts Part 1, by bluralphax
1. World War II led to a renewed interest in international efforts to maintain peace. Explain the specific reasons and historical events that led to the creation of the United Nations. How did the United Nations differ from the League of Nations?
The United Nations was formed by 51 different countries after the end of World War II in 1945. The United Nations’ decisions are decided by a two-thirds majority of present and voting countries, while the League of Nations’ decisions are decided by unanimous voting.
2. How successful has the United Nations been in reaching its goals? Cite the failure of the UN as evidenced by the sources in the appendix.
While the United Nations has been successful in reaching some of its goals, the United Nations is viewed as ineffective due to the democratic process it must go through to make a decision. With China, France, Russia, United States, and the United Kingdom having permanent veto powers, a resolution that makes all sides happy is hard to achieve.
3. Internationalism continued to grow after World War II. Explain the purpose and goals of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
The International Monetary fund and the World Bank are committed to the purpose of promoting financial cooperation among all nations and aiding in the growth and development of economically poor nations. The World Bank provides low-interest loans, interest-free credit, and grants. It focuses on improving education, health, and infrastructure. It also uses funds to modernize a country's financial sector, agriculture, and natural resources management. The International Monetary Fund rescues a nation from severe economic disasters. It monitors the annual economic growth and fiscal performance of its member nations and helps them in utilizing their fiscal budget through recommendations made by their economic advisers.
4. The European Economic Community was established in 1957. This organization was later renamed and extended into the European Union. What were the goals of this economic alliance? How successful has the EU been in reaching its goals?
The goals of the European Union are to promote peace and the well-being of its citizens, offer freedom, security, and justice without internal borders, promote a competitive market economy, combat social exclusion and discrimination, promote scientific and technological progress, enhance economic, social, and territorial cohesion and solidarity among EU countries, respect its rich cultural and linguistic diversity, and establish an economic and monetary union whose currency is the euro.
5. How does the image in document 6 reflect the negative effects of globalization and international cooperation?
The image in document 6 reflects the negative effects of globalization and international cooperation by showing that poor nations are not gaining anything from the policies of international cooperation efforts such as the World Trade Organization (WTO). This can be corroborated by the caption of the document, which says that the WTO’s “policies only cater to rich nations and oppose globalization trends" (blur.alphax.com).
6. Why have critics of globalization focused on the activities of the World Trade Organization (WTO)?
Critics of globalization have focused on the activities of the World Trade Organization due to the fact that it only benefits the rich nations and does not assist poor nations. Many economists and anthropologists have argued that the "only serves the interests of multinational corporations, undermines local development, penalizes poor countries, [and] is increasing inequality" (nber.org).
7. In document 4, who is the author writing to, and what is the purpose of the article?
The author, Kofi, A. Annan, is reporting to the president of the United Nations Security Council. The purpose of the article is a report regarding the actions taken by the United Nations during the Rwandan genocide.
Answer:
1. World War II led to a renewed interest in international efforts to maintain peace. Explain the specific reasons and historical events that led to the creation of the United Nations. How did the United Nations differ from the League of Nations?
World Wars, genocides, revolutions, continued disarray and instability amongst and within nations, and various other situations led to the creation of the United Nations. One more important factor which led to the creation of the United Nations was increased demand for equality and freedom which led to decolonization in the late 1900s. As a result, the United Nations was created with the sole purpose of preventing further chaos worldwide through diplomacy and promoting human rights as a path towards maintaining peace. The League of Nations was created following The First World War and although it laid the foundation for the United Nations, it focused on preventing further large-scale conflicts through diplomacy, while the United Nations focuses on promoting international peace and justice as a backbone to prevent mass conflicts.
2. How successful has the United Nations been in reaching its goals? Cite the failure of the UN as evidenced by the sources in the appendix.
Although the United Nations has been promoting peace and justice through the world by way of numerous peace-keeping organizations and the Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations has seen failures in reaching its goals. Rwanda is one example of the United Nations' terrible effort at maintaining peace in the region. The UNAMIR was sent as the body to aid in preventing the genocide, but the results of that intervention are well known as the Rwandan genocide did in fact occur killing 500,000 to 800,000 members of the Tutsi clan. UN Secretary-General Kofi A. Annan reports on the organization of the entire mission as a whole which lacked cooperation, a cohesive plan, general set-up of the peace-keeping troops, including a lack in the number of troops sent to Rwanda in accordance to the actual number suggested by field experts.
3. Internationalism continued to grow after World War II. Explain the purpose and goals of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
As a result of the Great Depression, which was a very encouraging factor of World War II, internationalism grew to great extents and led to the establishment of a substantial number of organizations formed. The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have a shared purpose of working towards maintaining economic stability. As trade advanced, countless opportunities started to become available for the common man, yet nearly a billion people around the world in 2007, were living on $1 a day. The World Bank was tasked with the responsibility to make those opportunities more accessible to the billion people around the world living in poverty. The consequences of both World Wars included large amounts of economic loss on nations, more specifically to the nations directly involved in the wars. The International Monetary fund was created to establish and maintain stable postwar economies for the aforementioned nations.
4. The European Economic Community was established in 1957. This organization was later renamed and extended into the European Union. What were the goals of this economic alliance? How successful has the EU been in reaching its goals?
The European Europe also known by its former name, the European Economic Community, aimed to establish a common trade market amongst member nations and encouraging peace through economy and politics for European nations after the fallout of World War II. They believed that the causes of the Great Depression were brought about by the restrained trade policies and lack of cooperation and unity between nations. Boosting the economies of member nations through a common trade market was the goal of this economic alliance. The EU has been successful in reaching its goals through free trade flow across EU borders while establishing the Banking Union to ensure safer and more reliable banks following the Financial Crisis of 2007-2008. A more profound proof of the European Union’s success in maintaining economic stability and free trade among member nations would be their achievement of gaining the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012.

Opium Wars, two armed conflicts in China in the mid-19th century between the forces of Western countries and of the Qing dynasty, which ruled China from 1644 to 1911/12. The first Opium War (1839–42) was fought between China and Britain, and the second Opium War (1856–60), also known as the Arrow War or the Anglo-French War in China, was fought by Britain and France against China. In each case the foreign powers were victorious and gained commercial privileges and legal and territorial concessions in China. The conflicts marked the start of the era of unequal treaties and other inroads on Qing sovereignty that helped weaken and ultimately topple the dynasty in favour of republican China in the early 20th century.

Trace the migration of the Aryans from the northwestern mountains to the Ganges River. To what physical features was a nomadic life best suited? To what physical features was a settled farm life best suited?
1.)Answer:In the later 20th century, ideas were refined along with data accrual, and migration and acculturation were seen as the methods whereby Indo-Aryans and their language and culture spread into northwest India around 1500 BCE. The term "invasion" is only being used nowadays by opponents of the Indo-Aryan Migration theory.
2.)The migration into northern India was not a large-scale immigration, but may have consisted of small groups which were genetically diverse. Their culture and language spread by the same mechanisms of acculturalisation, and the absorption of other groups into their patron-client system.
