Given that Humbaba was their creature, this infuriates the gods. The goddess Ishtar observes Gilgamesh bathing after the battle, falls in love with him, and makes a marriage proposal. Gilgamesh rejects her because she is the goddess of violence and sex, and all of her lovers suffer tragic outcomes. She requests that her father, the sky deity, send the Bull of Heaven, another monster, to slay Gilgamesh out of rage. Instead, Enkidu and Gilgamesh kill the Bull, infuriating the gods even more, who then execute Enkidu.
