Black Holes

A black hole is a region of space-time from which nothing can escape, even light. This may sound strange, but it is possible. To see why this happens, imagine throwing a tennis ball into the air. The harder you throw the tennis ball, the faster it is traveling when it leaves your hand, and the higher the ball will go before turning back. If you throw it hard enough, it will never return because the gravitational pull will not be able to bring it back down. The velocity, or speed, the ball must have to escape is known as the escape velocity. Earth's escape velocity is about 7 miles a second.
As a body is crushed into a smaller and smaller volume, the gravitational pull increases, and the escape velocity gets bigger. Things have to be thrown harder and harder to escape. Eventually, a point is reached when even light, which travels at 186 thousand miles a second, is not traveling fast enough to escape. At this point, nothing can get out as nothing can travel faster than light. This is a black hole.
8
Which of the following is a good summary of the passage above?
A.
If you throw a tennis ball really hard, it will travel very fast when it leaves your hand. The faster it travels, the higher the ball will go before it turns back to Earth.
B.
Velocity is also known as speed. To escape gravity, an item has to go at a high escape velocity. The smaller an object is, the higher its escape velocity must be.
C.
Light travels faster than anything else in the universe. The speed of light is about 186,000 miles per second. That is not fast enough to escape a black hole, though.
D.
A black hole is a special region in space and time. Nothing can escape from a black hole, even light, because the escape velocity of a black hole is extremely high.

Answer 1

The option that contains a good summary of the passage is D, "A black hole is a special region in space and time. Nothing can escape from a black hole, even..."

What is a summary?

A summary is simply a shorter version of a text. It contains the most important information presented in another text, only what is essential. Summaries leave out any unimportant pieces of information and do not present their own author's opinions about the original text.

After reading the passage provided, we can see that the most important information presented in it is about black holes. Therefore, we should only include in our summary whatever is necessary for people to understand what a black hole is. That is why we get to eliminate options A, B and C. Their focus is on other things, not black holes.

Option D is the right choice for us. It is the only summary that actually describes a black hole.

A boy who has not passed through puberty sustains an injury to his anterior pituitary such that FSH is no longer released, but LH secretion is normal. After he grows to maturity, which one of the following would you expect?
He would be sterile.

Answers

Secondary sexual characters and the functioning of sex gland opening cells depend upon the gonadotrophin; however, gametogenesis depends upon gonadotrophin.

The management of sex gland operation is exerted by the hypothalamic-pituitary axis through the episodic secretion of the gonadotrophic hormones gonadotrophin and gonadotrophin, successively regulated by the pulsatile secretion of gonadotropin-releasing endocrine (GnRH) into the pituitary portal vessels.

LH stimulates Leydig's cell T production, and gonadotrophin stimulates in Sertoli cells, in synergism with T, the assembly of regulative molecules and nutrients required for the upkeep of gametogenesis. Hence, each T and gonadotrophin regulate gametogenesis indirectly through Sertoli cells.

Luteinizing hormone (LH) plays a key role in ductless gland operation. {lh|luteinizing endocrine|LH|interstitial cell-stimulating hormone|ICSH|gonadotropin|gonadotrophin|gonadotropic hormone|gonadotrophic hormone} in synergism with stimulating vesicle hormone (FSH) stimulates vesicle growth and organic process. At first, I tried to ignore it, but it became too much. The two were shouting at each other and making personal insults. I had had enough.

Answer:

It was the year 1848, and Europe was in the midst of political upheaval. In France, King Louis-Philippe had been overthrown and a provisional government had been established. Across the continent, people were demanding greater political rights and freedoms, and revolutions were breaking out in many countries.

Maria, a young woman living in Paris, had joined the crowds of people on the streets, calling for change. She was excited and hopeful, filled with the energy of a movement that seemed to be sweeping across the continent.

As she marched with the others, she could feel the sense of solidarity and determination that united them. She held a banner in her hands that read "Liberté, égalité, fraternité," the slogan of the revolution.

At first, the mood on the streets was jubilant. People were cheering and singing, and the atmosphere was one of celebration. But as the days went on, the mood began to change. The provisional government, made up of middle-class liberals, was struggling to control the demands of the people.

Maria and the others began to face increasing resistance from the government, and clashes between the two sides became more frequent. Maria was terrified as she found herself caught up in the violence, but she was determined to keep fighting for what she believed in.

As the weeks passed, the situation in Paris grew more and more volatile. The provisional government declared martial law, and the streets were filled with soldiers and barricades. Maria knew that the revolution was coming to a head, and she was filled with a sense of both fear and excitement.

One day, as she was marching with the others, she heard the sound of gunfire. She looked around and saw people running in all directions, trying to escape the soldiers who were firing into the crowd. Maria's heart was pounding in her chest as she ran for cover, dodging the flying bullets.

Eventually, she found refuge in a nearby building. She was shaken and scared, but she was alive. As she caught her breath, she knew that she would continue to fight for the ideals of the revolution, no matter what the cost. She was determined to see the changes that she and the others had been demanding come to fruition.

Despite the violence and uncertainty of the times, Maria remained hopeful. She knew that the struggle for freedom and equality was worth it, and she was willing to sacrifice everything to see it through.

In a sentence, the verb can be either active or passive. The active voice refers to a sentence in which the subject performs the action expressed by the verb. For example, in the sentence "The cat chased the mouse," the subject is "the cat" and the verb is "chased," so the sentence is written in the active voice.

On the other hand, the passive voice refers to a sentence in which the subject receives the action expressed by the verb. In this case, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence, and the verb is conjugated with a form of "to be" and the past participle of the main verb.
