Before I explain the reason why Israel lost its enthusiasm for rebuilding the Temple I would like to explain the reason that led to the rebuilding of the temple. To begin with, the Jews were captured by the Romans and then were released with orders. Cyrus II who was the founder of the Achaemenian dynasty told all Jews to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple. Then Israel lost its enthusiasm for rebuilding the Temple. During the years between the laying of the Temple foundations and the resuming of the work, the people lost the excitement they had from the beginning. Instead of wanting to build the house of the lord they wanted homes for themselves.
As believers, we should continue to strive to learn more about God and his second coming because we need to be ready and in the bible, all the keys to doing that are right there. We need to remember that God knows exactly what is going on in this world but he promises strength and guidance to all who believe. Believing in Christ is not just an act it's a way of living. It's knowing that whatever happens your faith will still remain in Christ. In the bible, God speaks of things to do while we wait for his second coming and those include keeping the faith, turning from your sin, and praying. One verse in the bible that really explains what to do while we wait is in Hebrews 10:25 and it says Hebrews 10:25 instructs, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day [of Christ's return] approaching.”
