Answer:

Hera was the Greek goddess of marriage and the queen of Olympus. ...Poseidon was god of the sea. ...Hades was the god of the underworld and king of the dead.Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty, and the protector of sailors.Apollo was the god of music and healing

Explanation:

Zeus (Roman name: Jupiter)

The most powerful of all, Zeus was god of the sky and the king of Olympus. His temper affected the weather, and he threw thunderbolts when he was unhappy. He was married to Hera but had many other lovers. His symbols include the oak and the thunderbolt.

Hera (Roman name: Juno)

Hera was the Greek goddess of marriage and the queen of Olympus. She was Zeus's wife and sister; many myths tell of how she sought revenge when Zeus betrayed her with his lovers. Her symbols include the peacock and the cow.

Poseidon (Roman name: Neptune)

Poseidon was god of the sea. He was the most powerful god except for his brother, Zeus. He lived in a beautiful palace under the sea and caused earthquakes when he was in a temper. His symbols include the horse and the trident (a three-pronged pitchfork). The sea god features prominently in stories about the Trojan War, due to a grudge he bore against the former king Laomedon of Troy. He is the father of Polyphemus, the cyclops in the Odyssey, and of the demigod Triton.

Hades (Roman name: Pluto)

Hades was the god of the underworld and king of the dead. His name is often used interchangeably as that of the Greek underworld. He was the brother of Zeus and the husband of Persephone, Demeter's daughter, whom he kidnapped.

Aphrodite (Roman name: Venus)

Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty, and the protector of sailors. She may have been the daughter of Zeus and the Titan Dione, or she may have risen from the sea on a shell. Her symbols include the myrtle tree and the dove.

Which quotation from “Smarter Without Smartphones” best supports the author’s claim that students learn some skills through in-class, face-to-face interactions rather than through technology?

A. “Thanks to the Internet and smartphones, we students have access to nearly every piece of information imaginable.” (paragraph 1)

B. “We need critical-thinking skills so that we can analyze, interpret, and apply the information we find.” (paragraph 2)

C. “A teacher’s job becomes much harder when smartphones are added into the mix.” (paragraph 2)

D. “We learn how to interact with one another, how to take turns, and how to explain our thinking.” (paragraph 3)

Selection 2: Smarter Without Smartphones

1 Thirty years ago, students writing research papers used the school library. They would wade through encyclopedias and articles from newspapers and magazines to find information. Students were at the mercy of what was available in their school library. Not anymore. Thanks to the Internet and smartphones, we students have access to nearly every piece of information imaginable. Instantaneously. But as the problem of limited access to information has faded, a new problem has arisen in its place—a lack of attention.
2 We can get any information we want from a smartphone, but how do we learn what to do with that information? We need critical-thinking skills so that we can analyze, interpret, and apply the information we find. Historically, students have learned these skills in a classroom environment. What happens when smartphones invade the classroom? Students get distracted. (While writing this article, I’ve checked my email no fewer than five times!) A major challenge faced by every teacher is holding his or her students’ attention. A teacher’s job becomes much harder when smartphones are added into the mix.
3 The classroom has long been a place where students learn much more than just what is in the curriculum. We learn how to interact with one another, how to take turns, and how to explain our thinking. Unfortunately, for all of the “connecting” smartphones do, they keep us separated. The more time we spend on our phones, the less time we spend communicating with and learning from people around us. We gain so much from those right next to us in a classroom, often more than we do from studying. If we spend our time at school glued to our phones, we will never learn how to relate to other people. Isolated and alone, deprived of social interaction, trapped in our glowing screens, we may well end up without the social skills we need to succeed in life and work. Allowing cell phones into the classroom may look like a small rip in the fabric of society—but in next to no time, this tear can widen, leaving our society in tatters when a generation grows up without needed skills.
4 Fortunately, the answer to this threat is simplicity itself: Ban cell phones at school. The distraction from learning and the loss of social interaction are more than enough reason to justify keeping cell phones out of classrooms. Critics of the ban may point to the inconvenience students may experience if they are not able to use their phones to contact parents, search the Internet for information, and so on. Here, too, the answer is simple. Schools should provide cell phone “lockers.” Students will check their phones in at the start of the day. Should a student need his or her phone during the day, the student can visit the “locker” during a free period or with special permission, check out the phone, use it, then check it back in again. No one will be deprived of the chance to send that crucial text—as long as he or she does it outside the classroom.

Answers

Answer:

option B (we need critical-thinking skills so that we can analyze, interpret, and apply the information)

Explanation:

As mentioned by the text smartphones can give you information but schools teach you how to analyze, interpret, and apply that information. This option best supports the claim that students learn some skills through in-class, face-to-face interaction rather than through technology.

. I don't think its a because it doesn't support the claim and says the opposite. (stating that technology helps students learn better.)

. I don't think its c because its more general and doesn't directly support the author's claim (also it just mentions how a teachers job can become harder with smart phones, not that students can develop certain skills through interactions)

. and lastly I don't believe its d (although it comes close) its slightly more vague and out of context than option b is (I will say there's a possibility its d but I think option b offers more information, saying that we need critical thinking skills to apply, analyze, and interpret information.

hope this helped

The  quotation from “Smarter Without Smartphones” best supports the author’s claim that students learn some skills through in-class, face-to-face interactions rather than through technology is :

B. “We need critical-thinking skills so that we can analyze, interpret, and apply the information we find.”

“Smarter Without Smartphones”

The  quotation from “Smarter Without Smartphones” best supports the author’s claim that students learn some skills through in-class, face-to-face interactions rather than through technology is that  we need critical-thinking skills so that we can analyze, interpret, and apply the information we find.”

Narrative writing An Unexpected Visitor

Answers

Answer:

The Unexpected Visitor It was a rainy night. The dark clouds blocked the moon light from hitting the ground. Down on Earth, the Evergreens and other plants and trees shook violently in the wind. The rain water from above crashed onto them violently. The ground was covered with leaves and broken branches, barely visible during a night like this. There was also a great amount of fog throughout the woods. The huge mountains in the East were barely visible from here. There was a small town nearby, just across the road. The small trees around the houses were being illuminated by the faint lights of the lanterns that were put outside. Everything was silent, for it was late at night. There was a sudden chill in the air, much colder than…He looked out, but there was nothing there; the road was clear. “Hmm! It was nothing. Probably a bunch of wolves,” he said to himself in his deep voice.

There was some scratching noise outside of his room, and he walked angrily to open the door. He looked out; all the lights were off. He switched them on and saw the black figure standing a few feet in front of him. He accidently switched off the light, and realized his mistake. He turned the lights back on. There was nothing there. “I must be seeing things!” he exclaimed. Connor heard a woman’s voice call out his name. “Connor, help me! Someone! Please! Help!” said a bloodcurdling voice. He walked further into the room and tried to keep his eyes open. Everything was where it was supposed to be. He checked the kitchen. Nothing. He checked the stairway. Nothing. He even went downstairs and into the living room. Nothing. After that, he went and checked the doors and windows. He made sure everything was sealed shut. “Hello? Who is it? Hello?” There was no answer. And as he walked to check the last window, he saw his reflection. But the thing was, there was the dark figure again. Connor quickly turned around and started sweating. His heart was beating like crazy. He calmed down and became more vigilant. He looked around and saw it again, but it disappeared.

How do poverty and ignorance of
parents hinder the growth of
children?
Prepare an article about this
Situation taking examples from your
surroundings.
Also suggest measures to
overcome the problem

Answers

Answer/Explanation:

The parents themselves are uneducated and hence may not know the importance of education and nutrition.

A lack of nutritive food leads to many health issues, some of which can affect the limbs and the brain. As a result, the physical growth of children is stunted, and learning capability decreases. This causes the children to develop an inferiority complex and instead of aiming high, they become petty criminals.

Some Solution:

Spread awareness among the workers- All we need to do is speak to our domestic helpers regularly, and encourage them to educate their children. Make them understand the importance of education.

Support them- Support the domestic helpers in getting their children educated. Give them your old, unused stationery, old books, half-used notebooks and create interest in studies.

Channelise your charity- Instead of donating tons of money at places of worship (where you don't know what they will do with the money), use the same money to buy school items for the poor.

Share information- The government has many free health and academic campaigns. Since you are a digitally aware citizen, you can easily keep a track of free health campaigns and scholarships for the poor. You can convey this information to the helpers so that they can use it as an opportunity to improve their own lives.

Remember, that we are all the same. The only difference is that we are luckily born in a family that is comparatively much better off economically than the poor, and so it is our duty to help the underprivileged in our own small ways.

Pls tell the ans of this asap (ncert hindi class 8 kamchor chp) adapted from A Fableby Mark Twain1 An artist who had painted a small and very beautiful picture placed it so that he could see it in the mirror. He said, This doubles the distance and softens it, and it is twice as lovely as it was before. The animals out in the woods heard of this through the housecat, who was greatly admired by them because he was so learned, and so refined and civilized, and so polite and highbred, and could tell them so much which they didnt know before, and were not certain about afterward. They were much excited about this new piece of gossip, and they asked questions, so as to get at a full understanding of it. They asked what a picture was, and the cat explained.2 It is a flat thing, he said; wonderfully flat, marvelously flat, enchantingly flat and elegant. And, oh, so beautiful!3 That excited them almost to a frenzy, and they said they would give the world to see it.4 Then the bear asked, What is it that makes it so beautiful?5 It is the looks of it, said the cat.6 This filled them with admiration and uncertainty, and they were more excited than ever.7 Then the cow asked, What is a mirror?8 It is a hole in the wall, said the cat. You look in it, and there you see the picture, and it is so dainty and charming and ethereal1 and inspiring in its unimaginable beauty that your head turns round and round, and you almost swoon with delight.9 The donkey had not said anything as yet; he now began to throw doubts. He said there had never been anything as beautiful as this before, and probably wasnt now. He said that when it took a whole basketful of sesquipedalian2 adjectives to whoop up a thing of beauty, it was time for suspicion.10 It was easy to see that these doubts were having an effect upon the animals, so the cat went off offended. The subject was dropped for a couple of days, but in the meantime curiosity was taking a fresh start, and there was a revival of interest perceptible. Then the animals assailed the donkey for spoiling what could possibly have been a pleasure to them, on a mere suspicion that the picture was not beautiful, without any evidence that such was the case. The donkey was not troubled; he was calm, and said there was one way to find out who was in the right, himself or the cat: he would go and look in that hole, and come back and tell what he found there. The animals felt relieved and grateful, and asked him to go at oncewhich he did.11 But he did not know where he ought to stand; and so, through error, he stood between the picture and the mirror. The result was that the picture had no chance, and didnt show up.12 He returned home and said, The cat lied. There was nothing in that hole but a donkey. There wasnt a sign of a flat thing visible. It was a handsome donkey, and friendly, but just a donkey, and nothing more.13 The elephant asked, Did you see it good and clear? Were you close to it?14 I saw it good and clear, O Hathi, King of Beasts. I was so close that I touched noses with it.15 This is very strange, said the elephant; the cat was always truthful beforeas far as we could make out. Let another witness try. Go, Baloo, look in the hole, and come and report.16 So the bear went. When he came back, he said, Both the cat and the donkey have lied; there was nothing in the hole but a bear.17 Great was the surprise and puzzlement of the animals. Each was now anxious to make the test himself and get at the straight truth. The elephant sent them one at a time.18 First, the cow. She found nothing in the hole but a cow.19 The tiger found nothing in it but a tiger.20 The lion found nothing in it but a lion.21 The leopard found nothing in it but a leopard.22 The camel found a camel, and nothing more.23 Then Hathi was wroth,3 and said he would have the truth, if he had to go and fetch it himself. When he returned, he abused his whole subjectry for liars, and was in an unappeasable fury with the moral and mental blindness of the cat. He said that anybody but a nearsighted fool could see that there was nothing in the hole but an elephant.MORAL, BY THE CAT24 You can find in a text whatever you bring, if you will stand between it and the mirror of your imagination.Which statement about the elephant is most supported by the events in the passage?A.He is easily angered.B.He does not trust the cat.C.He has problems with his eyes.D.He is the leader of the animals.
