Subtracting Y from S:
S - Y = 1 - 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 - 3 + 4 + 4 + ...

We just calculated the value of Y to be 1/4. So let’s substitute it:
S - 1/4 = 4 x (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + ...)
S - 1/4 = 4S
3S = -1/4
