What boy would not be an Indian for a while when he thinks of the freest life in the world? This life was mine. Every day there was a real hunt. There was real game.
No people have a better use of their five senses than the children of the wilderness. We could smell as well as hear and see. We could feel and taste as well as we could see and hear. Nowhere has the memory been more fully developed than in the wild life, and I can still see wherein I owe much to my early training.
Of course I myself do not remember when I first saw the day, but my brothers have often recalled the event with much mirth; for it was a custom of the Sioux that when a boy was born his brother must plunge into the water, and if he was not big enough water was thrown on him. If the new-born had a sister, she must be immersed. The idea was that a warrior had come to camp, and the other children must display some act of hardihood.
I was so unfortunate as to be the youngest of five children who, soon after I was born, were left motherless. I had to bear the humiliating name "Hakādah," meaning "the pitiful last," until I should earn a more dignified and appropriate name. I was regarded as little more than a plaything by the rest of the children.
The babe was done up as usual in a movable cradle made from an oak board two and a half feet long and one and a half feet wide. On one side of it was nailed with brass-headed tacks the richly embroidered sack, which was open in front and laced up and down with buckskin strings. Over the arms of the infant was a wooden bow, the ends of which were firmly attached to the board, so that if the cradle should fall the child's head and face would be protected. On this bow were hung curious playthings—strings of artistically carved bones and hoofs of deer, which rattled when the little hands moved them.
In this upright cradle I lived, played, and slept the greater part of the time during the first few months of my life. Whether I was made to lean against a lodge pole or was suspended from a bough of a tree, while my grandmother cut wood, or whether I was carried on her back, or conveniently balanced by another child in a similar cradle hung on the opposite side of a pony, I was still in my oaken bed.
This grandmother, who had already lived through sixty years of hardships, was a wonder to the young maidens of the tribe. She showed no less enthusiasm over Hakādah than she had done when she held her first-born, the boy's father, in her arms. Every little attention that is due to a loved child she performed with much skill and devotion. She made all my scanty garments and my tiny moccasins with a great deal of taste. It was said by all that I could not have had more attention had my mother been living.

What do the twins represent in the world on the turtle's back?

Two opposing worldviews that exist in everyone as they grow up are depicted by the twins in the world on the turtle's back.

The twins were imaginative. They created the animals out of clay by modeling them, then they gave the animals life. They clashed with one another over this. The deer was created by the right-handed twin, and the mountain lion that devours the deer was created by the left-handed twin. The right-handed twin, however, was aware that deer would always outnumber mountain lions.

He also produced another animal. The ground squirrel was made by him. The left-handed twin created the weasel after seeing that the ground squirrel, who dug a hold, was inaccessible to the mountain lion. There are numerous ground squirrels and few weasels, despite the fact that the weasel has the ability to enter the ground squirrel's hole and kill it. The right-handed twin then produced the porcupine after deciding he would create an animal that the weasel could not kill. However, the bear, who flips the porcupine over on his back and tears out his gut, was created by the left-handed sibling.

What are the 4 types of rhetorical appeals?

Answers

The characteristics of an argument that make it truly persuasive are rhetorical appeals. A writer must appeal to the reader in a number of ways in order to produce a compelling argument. Logos, ethos, pathos, and kairos are the four distinct categories of persuasion.

A description of the text, the author, the audience, the purpose(s), and the setting—the five main components of a rhetorical situation. These three appeals can be used in tweets, scholarly papers, and advertisements. An automobile commercial could use humor to entice you to purchase the vehicle while also highlighting the vehicle's safety record, brand history, and reputation (pathos).

A speaker's ethos is their claim to be an authority on the subject, their logos is their justification for their position, and their pathos is their attempt to influence the listener emotionally. By constructing logical arguments, Logos appeals to the rational side of the listener. By appealing to the speaker's status or authority, ethos increases the likelihood that the audience will believe them. In order to evoke certain feelings in the audience, such as anger or sympathy, pathos uses emotional appeals.

What is the summary of the world on the turtle's back?

A creation story from the Iroquois people is known as The World on a Turtle's Back. The biblical view of creation is connected to this worldview. Both depict a woman who wants to eat the forbidden fruit. As soon as they consume this forbidden fruit, good and evil are born. The story holds that good dominates during the day while evil does so during the night. The woman riding the turtle represents the days of creation by planting roots and other vegetation, while the right-handed twin cuts off the grandmother's head and throws it into the air to signify the night. These are illustrations of the shift in American literature toward autonomous thought. They emphasized the effect of God on people, and gradually turned away from church dependence and toward individuals making their own decisions. We understand The World on a Turtle's Back historically in terms of the genesis story.

The individual is homozygous for the allele if the two alleles are the same. The individual is heterozygous if the alleles are distinct from one another.

The term "allele" is used to refer to a gene's alternate form or variants. For each autosomal gene, one allele is inherited from each parent, and we often group the alleles into categories. Usually, we refer to them as normal, wild-type, aberrant, or mutant alleles. An allele is a gene's variable form. Some genes exist in a number of forms, all of which share the same genetic locus on a chromosome. Because each genetic locus in humans contains two alleles—one acquired from each parent—they are known as diploid organisms.

The genotype of a particular gene is represented by each pair of alleles. When two alleles are identical at a specific location, a genotype is said to be homozygous, and when the two alleles are different, it is said to be heterozygous. The phenotype, or the organism's outer appearance, is influenced by alleles. There are dominant and recessive alleles. An organism will show the dominant phenotype if it is heterozygous at a certain location and carries both a dominant and recessive gene.
