The account of a party of 30 pilgrims making their way from London to Canterbury is told in "The Canterbury Tales." To amuse themselves while traveling, the tourists consent to take part in a storytelling competition. Each tale in "The Canterbury Tales" has a prologue that introduces the character giving the tale, the tale itself, and interactions between the travelers between tales. Beginning with a knight in King Arthur's court is The Wife of Bath's Tale. One day, this knight encounters a lovely young woman and rapes her. When the court learns of this, it decides that the knight must be executed for his crimes and decapitated. The ladies of the court, however, step in and make a fascinating suggestion.

The knight could have a chance to survive if he can return in a year and tell the court what women most want. If he is mistaken, he will be put to death.

In not less than 200 words, write a descriptive account on the topic, “Travelling across the desert on a camel.” Note: use at least four descriptive features.

Answers

Answer:

Traveling through the desert on a camel is a very different adventure and an interesting experience, but very tiring and somewhat uncomfortable, mainly due to the region's climate. The desert is a very hot and dry place, and traveling through this type of climate can be challenging because of the feeling of extreme heat, which makes us tired quickly. It is also common for us to be very thirsty, as sweating is intense in this heat. However, as we observe the landscape, we are amazed by the beauty of the place. Although there is no lush vegetation, it is possible to see an orange immensity, covered with sand that fills our eyes. We can also see, in some moments, a little vegetation, but adapted to the region and in a very low quantity. Another important feature of the trip is the silence that we can hear, since the place has a small amount of living beings and interaction between them, which promotes a feeling of tranquility, despite the intense heat.

Explanation:

A descriptive text must have a large number of adjectives. Adjectives are the class of words that allow them to present the characteristics of a place, allowing a description of that environment. It is also important, that a descriptive text presents details in relation to the characteristics and appearance that make up the place. This type of text must be able to promote mental images, allowing the reader to visualize what is being narrated. In addition, the text must allow the reader to feel sensations, through the descriptions. These four resources were used in the paragraph presented above.

j) I play computer games in my bedroom.

Answers

Answer:

The sentences in the present continuous are:

a) Jane is riding a bike this weekend.

b) I am jumping in the party right now.

c) My friend is doing the school's work tonight.

d) My mother is making a cake this weekend.

e) My friends and I are riding our bikes this weekend. We are enjoying it very much.

f) George is wearing long hair.

g) I am bringing a snack to school today.

h) I am sleeping until late tomorrow.

i) I am thinking of going to London next year.

j) I am playing computer games in my bedroom.

Explanation:

The present continuous structure is the following:

subject + am/is/are + main verb with -ing

We need to pay attention to the use of the present continuous as well before we can transform the sentences. The present continuous is used to refer to actions that are taking place at the moment of speaking or that are to happen in a nearby future. Notice that the present continuous cannot be used for habitual actions - that is for the simple present. That is why, in the sentences above, more changes were necessary. Instead of "all the weekends," which refers to a habitual action, for instance, we can use "this weekend".

NOTE: For letter F, I needed to change the verb. In English, "George is having long hair" is not an acceptable structure.

Answer:

B Jim and Della make great sacrifices to give each other special

Christmas gifts

Explanation:

The story deals with two lovers who were always ready to make sacrifices for each other. Jim and Della shared a reciprocal love that was not self centered, and were ready to abhor each other. Thus, they made sacrifices with respect to their salient or very important items of possession so as to make each other happy.

Both were unselfish in the relationship, thus their similarity to Magi due to the great sacrifices made so as to give each other a gift.
