Emerson and Thoreau both adhere to Transcendentalist ideas and address the shared topic of one’s relationship with society. Yet, despite their shared experiences and information, they come to different conclusions. Compare the development of the arguments Emerson and Thoreau make about solitude. Evaluate the validity and effectiveness of their claims, and their use of reasoning. How does each use the same Transcendentalist philosophies to develop their differing arguments? Which argument is more persuasive, and why? Be sure to cite evidence from both texts to justify your reasoning. Organize your essay into five paragraphs with 1000-1200 words.
Transcendentalism
First published Thu Feb 6, 2003; substantive revision Fri Aug 30, 2019
Transcendentalism is an American literary, philosophical, religious, and political movement of the early nineteenth century, centered around Ralph Waldo Emerson. Other important transcendentalists were Henry David Thoreau, Margaret Fuller, Lydia Maria Child, Amos Bronson Alcott, Frederic Henry Hedge, Elizabeth Palmer Peabody, and Theodore Parker. Stimulated by English and German Romanticism, the Biblical criticism of Herder and Schleiermacher, and the skepticism of Hume, the transcendentalists operated with the sense that a new era was at hand. They were critics of their contemporary society for its unthinking conformity, and urged that each person find, in Emerson’s words, “an original relation to the universe” (O, 3). Emerson and Thoreau sought this relation in solitude amidst nature, and in their writing. By the 1840s they, along with other transcendentalists, were engaged in the social experiments of Brook Farm, Fruitlands, and Walden; and, by the 1850s in an increasingly urgent critique of American slavery.

A man who watched me play in the park suggested that my mother allow me to play in local chess tournaments. My mother smiled graciously, an answer that meant nothing. I desperately wanted to go, but I bit back my tongue. I knew she would not let me play among strangers. Lily had a talent for getting into trouble. Her parents were always scolding her for doing things she shouldn't do . She loved to play in the woods behind her house. However , her father warned her to not stay in the woods after dark. He told Lily tales of dangerous animals that roamed the woods in the night. Being a curious child, Lily did not pay attention to her father's wise words
One evening after dinner , Lily sneaked out of the house and went exploring in the dark woods. Armed with a flashlight , Lily was determined to see for herself these scary creatures her father described. She had never been in the woods at night. It was strange place indeed. The sounds were unfamiliar to her. Suddenly, she heard a low growling eyes that seemed to be coming closer to her. Lily became frightened. Forgetting her exploration, she ran home as fast as she could. Once out of the woods, Lily calmed herself down. She realized that her father was right . It was too dangerous to be in the woods after dark. Lily learned that being stubborn isn't always a good thing .

Might eat it I suppose is example of what figure of speech
Answer:
Explanation:
Five main figures of speech we use in our daily prose:
1.) A simile is a figure of speech that uses comparison. In a simile, we use two specific words “like” and “as” to compare two unlikely things, that actually have nothing in common.
She is as brave as a lion.
2.) A metaphor and a simile are quite similar actually. A metaphor also uses compares to things that are in no way similar. It does so to bring out the symbolism. A metaphor is a word or phrase used to show its similarity to another thing. It helps to explain an idea, but if you take a metaphor at its literal meaning it will sound absurd.
Alex is a chicken which suggests that Alex is a coward or he's frightened.
3.) In personification, we personify or represent a non-human entity as human. We give an inanimate object or an intangible idea of some human qualities such as emotions, or gestures or even speech.
time ran away from him”, “the boat danced in the puddle”, “the car died in the middle of the road” etc.
4.) Hyperbole in the Greek language translates to ‘excess’. And that is what it does, it exaggerates. We use hyperboles to emphasize the importance or overstate something.
"Since he has been away from home he has gotten as thin as a toothpick". Obviously, he has not gotten as thin as a toothpick, we only exaggerate to emphasize on how thin he has become.
5.) Onomatopoeia refers to those words that imitate the sounds of an object or person.
"The bees buzzed around in the garden". Here the word ‘buzzed’ is indicating the sound coming from the bees.

The grandmothers have the special care of the daughters just before and after they come to womanhood. The girls are not allowed to get married until they have come to womanhood; and that period is recognized as a very sacred thing, and is the subject of a festival, and has peculiar customs. The young woman is set apart under the care of two of her friends, somewhat older, and a little wigwam, called a teepee, just big enough for the three, is made for them, to which they retire. She goes through certain labors which are thought to be strengthening, and these last twenty-five days. Every day, three times a day, she must gather, and pile up as high as she can, five stacks of wood. This makes fifteen stacks a day. At the end of every five days the attendants take her to a river to bathe. She fasts from all flesh-meat during these twenty-five days, and continues to do this for five days in every month all her life. Our boys are introduced to manhood by their hunting of deer and mountain-sheep. Before they are fifteen or sixteen, they hunt only small game, like rabbits, hares, fowls, etc. They never eat what they kill themselves, but only what their father or elder brothers kill. When a boy becomes strong enough to use larger bows made of sinew, and arrows that are ornamented with eagle-feathers, for the first time, he kills game that is large, a deer or an antelope, or a mountain-sheep. Then he brings home the hide, and his father cuts it into a long coil which is wound into a loop, and the boy takes his quiver and throws it on his back as if he was going on a hunt, and takes his bow and arrows in his hand. Then his father throws the loop over him, and he jumps through it. This he does five times. Now for the first time he eats the flesh of the animal he has killed, and from that time he eats whatever he kills but he has always been faithful to his parents’ command not to eat what he has killed before.
