The lake was created thousands of years ago by the process of sub\n, when the Carib bean continental plate was forced under another plate. This opened fault lines that allowed oil from deep underground deposits to rise to the surface, where it collected in a volcanic crater. The air caused lighter elements of the oil to evaporate, leaving behind the heavy asphalt, a mix of oil, clay a nd water.
In 1595, Sir Walter Raleigh arrived in Trinidad in search of El Dorado, the fabled city of gold. He attacked Port of Spain with cannons, and sacked St. Joseph. While sailing across the Gulf of Paria, he reputedly smelled the tar, and put into shore at Terra de Brea. The Caribs led Raleigh to the pitch lake, and he realized that the substance was ideal for caulking his ships. He took several barrels home with him, and has since been credited with “discovering” the lake.
Mining of the lake started in 1867, and an estimated 10 million tons of asphalt has been extracted since. Lake Asphalt of Trinidad & Tobagois a stateowned enterprise which mines, processes and exports asphalt around the globe, where it is used for paving roads, runways and race tracks. The company is vital to the local economy, as the major source of employment. The lake is estimated to contain reserves of around 6 million tons, which would last 400 years at the current rate of extraction.
Items found in the Pitch Lake include Amerindian artifacts, fossilized remains from a prehistoric giant sloth, and a mastodon tooth. In 1928, a massive tree, estimated to be around 4,000 years old, suddenly emerged from the center of the lake, then sank back down, although a section was rescued for posterity. Some scientists think the Pitch Lake is similar to hydrocarbon lakes on Titan, Saturn’s moon, which could help to answer the question of whether they could support life.

The Emancipation Proclamation, excerpt
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. A PROCLAMATION.
I, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, President of the United States of America, and Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy thereof, do hereby proclaim and declare that hereafter, as heretofore, the war will be prosecuted for the object of practically restoring the constitutional relation between the United States, and each of the States, and the people thereof, in which States that relation is, or may be, suspended or disturbed.
That it is my purpose, upon the next meeting of Congress to again recommend the adoption of a practical measure tendering pecuniary aid to the free acceptance or rejection of all slave States, so called, the people whereof may not then be in rebellion against the United States and which States may then have voluntarily adopted, or thereafter may voluntarily adopt, immediate or gradual abolishment of slavery within their respective limits; and that the effort to colonize persons of African descent, with their consent, upon this continent, or elsewhere, with the previously obtained consent of the Governments existing there, will be continued.
That on the first day of January in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom.
That the executive will, on the first day of January aforesaid, by proclamation, designate the States, and part of States, if any, in which the people thereof respectively, shall then be in rebellion against the United States; and the fact that any State, or the people thereof shall, on that day be, in good faith represented in the Congress of the United States, by members chosen thereto, at elections wherein a majority of the qualified voters of such State shall have participated, shall, in the absence of strong countervailing testimony, be deemed conclusive evidence that such State and the people thereof, are not then in rebellion against the United States.
That attention is hereby called to an Act of Congress entitled "An Act to make an additional Article of War" approved March 13, 1862, and which act is in the words and figure following:
''Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That hereafter the following shall be promulgated as an additional article of war for the government of the army of the United States, and shall be obeyed and observed as such:
Article —. All officers or persons in the military or naval service of the United States are prohibited from employing any of the forces under their respective commands for the purpose of returning fugitives from service or labor, who may have escaped from any persons to whom such service or labor is claimed to be due, and any officer who shall be found guilty by a court-martial of violating this article shall be dismissed from the service.

Select the correct answer. How does Blake's poem draw on the original Greek story of Cupid? © A. Both texts describe Cupid as loving war. © B. Both texts describe Cupid as using arrows to turn hearts to stone. OC. Both texts describe Cupid as a young boy. OD. Both texts describe Cupid as using arrows to cause people to love.
Answer:
The correct answer is D. "Both texts describe cupid as using arrows to cause people to love."
Explanation:
The Greek Story portrays Cupid as given in option (D): "Both texts describe Cupid as using arrows to cause people to love."
Who is cupid?Cupid is the deity of desire, sensual love, attraction, and affection (meaning "passionate desire"). He is frequently represented as the child of Mars, the god of war, and Venus, the goddess of love. He also goes by the name Amor in Latin ("Love").
Eros is the Greek equivalent of him. Mercury, the gods' messenger, and Venus, the goddess of love, were the parents of the god Cupid.
He was armed with arrows and a bow. (they're on your Valentine's Day bingo card for a reason).
Therefore, Blake's poem, which is based on the original Greek myth of Cupid, describes the god as using arrows to make humans fall in love. Hence, option (D) is the correct answer.

Which of the following sentences, if added to “The Bully,” would prevent it from being realistic fiction?
A.After school, Ramon showed Michael a device that could make you live forever. B.J.T. stopped picking on the other students.
C.Ramon moved to a new school.
D.The three boys eventually became friends and stayed friends through high school.
Answer:
A
Explanation:
Adding a sentence that included a futuristic device that made you live forever wouldn't make it realistic anymore.
The following sentences, if added to “The Bully,” would prevent it from being realistic fiction "After school, Ramon showed Michael a device that could make you live forever. B.J.T. stopped picking on the other students." Thus. option A is correct.
What is Realistic Fiction?Fiction written in a realistic style depicts our world and society by using made-up people and circumstances. It emphasizes themes of maturing and facing personal and social issues. Characters in this genre are seen learning about both themselves and other people.
Bully's central character is Bullworth School pupil James "Jimmy" Hopkins. Jimmy is 15 years old, shorter than other classmates in height, and has a stocky build.
That wouldn't be as true if you replaced it with a phrase about a futuristic invention that made you live forever.
If "The Bully" had the following additions, it would not be realistic fiction. "Ramon showed Michael a machine that might let you live eternally after school. B.J.T. gave up harassing the other kids." Hence, choice A is correct.

under Mount Neion's wind-blown robe of leaves,

Same, wooded Zacynthus—Ithaca
being most lofty in that coastal sea,
and northwest, while the rest lie east and south.
A rocky isle, but good for a boy's training;
I shall not see on earth a place more dear,
Read a student’s paraphrase of the excerpt.
Odysseus’s home is Ithaca, a rocky island surrounded by other islands. Odysseus considers Ithaca a great place in which to grow up.
What key detail should be added to strengthen the student’s paraphrasing of this excerpt?
Dulichium, Same, and Zacynthus are all visible to Ithaca.
Odysseus holds his home very close to his heart.
The islands surrounding Ithaca lie to the east and the south.
Ithaca lies under Mount Neion and to the northwest.
Answer:
Odysseus holds his home very close to his heart.
Answer: From the options, I find two that are potentially good, as the other ones actually include small inconsistencies which make them false: (e.g. the islands surrouding Ithaka lie not only to south and east
Dulichium, Same, and Zacynthus are all visible to Ithaca
Odysseus holds his home very close to his heart.
Of these two the more relevant is the following, and I think it's also the correct option:
Odysseus holds his home very close to his heart.
it provides an argument why he things that it's a good place to grow up

Death is mystified at humans’ capacity for both good and evil. Discuss examples of the novel’s characters’ dual natures.
Answer:
"Death finds it impossible to weigh the value of human beings, with some capable of great malice and criminality like Hitler and others capable of great strength and bravery like Liesel and Hans: "I wanted to ask her how the same thing could be so ugly and so glorious, and its words and stories so brilliant." Thus is Death haunted by humans, just as humans are haunted by Death. A jaded metaphysical being so used to dying could only be fearful of -- and, at times, amazed by -- those who live."

Would I put her as the author in parentheses or the author of the link. What do you do for in text citations when you don’t have a page number? Pls give me examples!! As u can see I’m confused ♀️
Answer:
It's the same for everything. For a quote you use quotation marks, and punctuation goes inside the quotation marks. At the beginning of a new paragraph, you indent, and your writing has a title as well as a page header. Write in Times New Roman size 12, double spaced lines. Italicize the title quotes, but not a person's name.
