Which character, or characters, in "Spunk" would you consider to be the most wicked? Why? Do you think this wickedness is intentional (on purpose) or unintentional (accidental)? Which type of wickedness do you think is most destructive? Why?

Answers

The one in "Spunk" who I would deem to be the most evil is Spunk. He is a careless, slothful, and egotistical person who exploits those around him.

His acts are deliberate because he understands what will happen as a result of them and is conscious of the harm he will cause to others around him. His immorality is most devastating when it comes to relationships; his reckless actions make people lose faith in him and in one another, which leads their relationships to fall apart.

He frequently takes advantage of people, using them as pawns to further his own agenda while leaving them feeling betrayed and hurt. Additionally, he could be cunning and use intimidation or guilt to subdue others. He rarely owns up to his mistakes, which breeds animosity and further ruins relationships.

Write a short note on Jack the Giant-killer.

The story of "Jack and the Beanstalk" or "Jack the Giant Killer" is a fairy tale that has evolved over time with different versions and variations. Prompt : In "The things they carried", what theme does O'Brien develop by including long lists of "the things they carried" in this story ?
Make sure your response is strong by :
. Starting with an argument that clearly answers all parts of the prompt.
. Including two pieces of evidence that support your argument.
. Using transitions to help readers follow your ideas.
. Explaining how your evidence supports your argument.

Answers

Answer: In "The Things They Carried," Tim O'Brien develops the theme of the burdens of war by including long lists of the physical and emotional items carried by the soldiers. These lists emphasize the weight and significance of what the soldiers carry, both literally and metaphorically.

One piece of evidence to support this argument is the list of items carried by Lieutenant Cross, which includes not only weapons and ammunition but also personal items such as letters and photographs. The inclusion of these personal items highlights the emotional burden of war and the importance of individual relationships and connections.

Another example of the theme is the detailed list of items carried by Ted Lavender, who is killed in action. This list includes tranquilizers, marijuana, and other drugs, indicating the soldiers' need to numb themselves emotionally in order to cope with the horrors of war.

The use of long lists of items also serves to emphasize the physical weight of what the soldiers carry, such as the heavy packs and weapons. Through these lists, O'Brien conveys the physical and emotional toll of war on the soldiers, as well as the weight of their responsibilities and the constant danger they face.

In conclusion, the long lists of items carried by the soldiers in "The Things They Carried" serve as a powerful literary device to emphasize the theme of the burdens of war. By including both physical and emotional items, O'Brien highlights the weight and significance of what the soldiers carry, both literally and metaphorically, and underscores the personal and emotional toll of war.

It emphasized the importance of taking personal responsibility for one’s life and actions, having faith and believing in oneself, and having perseverance and resilience to achieve goals. I found the advice to be inspiring and motivating.

However, I disagreed with some of the advice given in the video. The suggestion that someone must be able to tell someone what motivates them and what to do seemed a bit unrealistic and unhelpful. Additionally, the idea that one must wait 24 months before making their own choices and dealing with the consequences felt overly restrictive. And finally, I disagreed with the lack of discussion regarding realistic plans and goals. While having faith is important, having a concrete plan of action is just as important.

Poem Title: Unchained

Verse 1:
I used to be chained, locked in a cage
Restricted by fear, trapped by my rage
But I found the key, it was buried within
And now I'm free, no longer trapped in sin

Verse 2:
The chains that held me, were not made of steel
But rather doubt, and the lies I'd feel
I broke them off, with a single thought
And now I soar, like a bird that's caught

Verse 3:
My wings are strong, my heart beats wild
I am free, like a newborn child
No longer bound, by society's chains
I am free, to create my own lanes

Verse 4:
The road ahead, may be long and tough
But I am strong, and I am enough
I'll rise up high, like a phoenix from ash
My spirit unbroken, my soul will not crash

Green:
Once trapped in a cage, now soaring like a bird that's caught

Online Values Scenarios
Scenario 2: Sasha and Max
Sasha likes to upload videos of herself playing soccer and Max often leaves
nasty comments on the videos. Sasha finds a computer in the school lab where
Max has left his social networking account logged in, so she finds that she can
post or delete anything she wants on his account. She pretends to be him and
posts nasty comments on all of his friends' photos and then changes his
password so he can't take them down. When Max finds out that Sasha has
locked him out of his account he reports her. She says he deserved it for doing
mean things to him.

1. Identify the issue? What is the problem with the characters behaviour or
decisions?

2. Writea positive resolution.

Answers

The issue in this scenario is that Sasha, in response to Max leaving nasty comments on her videos, decides to take revenge by accessing Max's social networking account without his permission, posting nasty comments on his friends' photos, and changing his password to lock him out of his own account.

What is the positive resolution?

Sasha's behavior involves unauthorized access, impersonation, and cyberbullying, which are all unethical and potentially illegal actions.

A positive resolution to this issue could involve Sasha recognizing the harm and wrongfulness of her actions, apologizing to Max and his friends for her behavior, and taking responsibility for her actions by reverting the changes she made to Max's account and helping him regain control of his account.

So, Sasha could also communicate with Max in a respectful and assertive manner about the hurt caused by his nasty comments, and seek a peaceful resolution or mediation to address the issue without resorting to retaliation or revenge. Additionally, both Sasha and Max could be encouraged to understand the consequences of their online actions and learn how to resolve conflicts in a positive and respectful manner without engaging in harmful behaviors.
