It’s as if Sarah is a good luck charm.I must finish writing since the candle is about to burn out very soon, mother told me i should take a break and stop working so hard, but if i don’t work hard then Sarah can’t have a good life, as her mother i must care for her and do what’s best for her.

Dear journal, i decided to start writing down everything that happens for when i get old i can have a story to tell, so, i got a letter from my mother that she is visiting tomorrow to give little sara a gift, Sarah is currently outside as i’m writing this, she’s playing with the hound that lives in the other village, the townsmen came over offering a job to me to make some money to care for Sara,,i told Sarah to go make some friends with the village kids but she prefers to help me around the house, i’m excited for tomorrow since i have not seen my mother since i was younger, i had to leave home at sixteen to get a job, i’m currently twenty-three, i wonder how my mother is. She seems to be fine if she is coming over tomorrow hopefully. Sara has been very helpful and I think the neighbors might give her a job helping in their farm! She is just the sweetest girl ever, I remember finding her in that little basket wrapped in that blue blanket on that snowy winter day. I will continue to write about every day until Sarah is old enough to continue on for me.

My mother is soon to be here, Sarah is very excited! She has been sitting outside since this morning, she tried to go outside in her night clothes but after a bit of bickering she finally put on her dress. She is very energetic this morning, i’m a bit concerned about her though, she still has no friends and prefers to help me and play with the hound, I hope that when mother comes she can help Sarah make new friends. A rich man has come to the village to look for a poor maiden to make his wife, I am quite confused on why a rich man would want a poor maiden. All the poor maidens in this village are lovely but none are very rich, I'm afraid that he might try to harm them. There is knocking at my door. I must hurry and get it, once I see who is at my door I'll let them in.

THE VOYAGES OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE
By Hugh Lofting
Chapter 1: The Cobbler's Son
My name was Tommy Stubbins, son of Jacob Stubbins, the cobbler of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh; and I was nine and a half years old. At that time Puddleby was only quite a small town. A river ran through the middle of it; and over this river there was a very old stone bridge, called Kingsbridge, which led you from the market-place on one side to the churchyard on the other.
Sailing-ships came up this river from the sea and anchored near the bridge. I used to go down and watch the sailors unloading the ships upon the river-wall. The sailors sang strange songs as they pulled upon the ropes; and I learned these songs by heart. And I would sit on the river-wall with my feet dangling over the water and sing with the men, pretending to myself that I too was a sailor.
For I longed always to sail away with those brave ships when they turned their backs on Puddleby Church and went creeping down the river again, across the wide lonely marshes to the sea. I longed to go with them out into the world to seek my fortune in foreign lands—Africa, India, China and Peru! When they got round the bend in the river and the water was hidden from view, you could still see their huge brown sails towering over the roofs of the town, moving onward slowly—like some gentle giants that walked among the houses without noise. What strange things would they have seen, I wondered, when next they came back to anchor at Kingsbridge! And, dreaming of the lands I had never seen, I'd sit on there, watching till they were out of sight.
