to connect two closely related clauses without a coordinating conjunction
to connect two closely related clauses with a conjunctive adverb
to connect two main clauses with complex internal punctuation
to clarify the meaning of phrases in a series
Answer:
to connect two closely related clauses without coordinating conjunction
to connect two closely related clauses with a conjunctive adverb
Explanation:
The two independent clauses are closely related and were merged into a single sentence; the semicolon was necessary because there was no coordinating conjunction used (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) and a conjunctive adverb (however) took that place. Only coordinating conjunctions can link independent clauses without the need for a semicolon.

Who could be described as undaunted?
Answer:
A judge who is well respected by his peers
Explanation:
A lawyer who agrees to take a difficult case would have a hard time managing all the paperwork, and evidence for their client to win the case or get a deal. A law student who doesn't need to study would have a hard time as they may have the knowledge but not the experience. So this leaves the last option which is a judge who is well respected by his peers. If his well respected by his peers, he must have the experience and knowledge to deal with certain difficult cases. Whether they may be difficult or easy, it would be undaunted as he would not be discouraged by the challenge because he already has the experience and knowledge to face the case.

excerpt from A Good Place for Maggle
by Ofella Dumas Lachtman
"ACCIDENT AT GREENSTON NUCLEAR PLANT, No Danger to Community, Officials Say."
Every time that headline from yesterday's Los Angeles News flashed into her mind, Margarita-Maggle-Cruz griped the steering wheel of her
VW more tightly and assured herself that she was doing the right thing. It wasn't as if she were in danger from the Greenston plant in the desert
hundreds of miles away, but those headlines had been the convincing factor in her decision. Yes, it was the right thing to do, and hour after hour
as she drove north of Los Angeles, she had felt more and more competent and more secure. Until now.
For the last hour she had been so Intent on the changing countryside that she forgot to buy gas. The gauge said empty. She drove on, Idreading
the moment when the motor would draw on the last drop of gasoline and give up. She was driving on a narrow country road lined with tall
eucalyptus trees and nothing else. Then in a clearing on the left side of the road, she saw a battered old sign with faded red letters: G-A-S. No, It
wasn't a mirage; it was more like a miracle. With a grateful sigh she turned into the run-down station, bumping over broken concrete and coming
to a stop by one of two pumps.
A weary-looking old man in grease-spotted overalls appeared beside her. "Fill 'er up?"
"Is it cheaper if I pump it myself?" It didn't look as if he'd take a credit card and she was low on cash.
"All the same here, missy," the man called, rounding the car. "Fill 'er up?"
Maggle said yes, please go ahead, and climbed out of the blue VW. Good thing I didn't splurge on lunch, she thought, staring at the pumps. Gas
is almost twice as high up here as it is in Los Angeles. But I'm not complaining. When she had driven mile after mile without finding a gas station,
she had begun to think that maybe being sixteen and a half didn't make her that smart; maybe a trip like this was a little much for her. Now she
felt better. She stretched and thought, Dad would be proud of me. I'm doing what is right for me. Oh, I'll miss my friends, especially Mim and

two pieces of evidence from the text to support this conclusion.
Both Colin and Mary are extraordinarily different by their kinship in The Secret Garden.
How friendship is being potrayed in the novel?Toward the start of the novel, Colin is so wiped out he can't get up. He keeps the shades shut and accepts the light will exacerbate him.
Everything he does all day is lie in bed and cry and whine. Subsequent to becoming companions with Mary and later Dickon, in any case, he changes.
He figures out how to run and play outside. He understands he isn't wiped out like he has consistently accepted. He becomes kinder to other people and turns out to be really blissful.
Mary likewise changes enormously because of her companionship with Colin and Dickon. Toward the beginning of the novel, Mary is mean and horrible.
She is inconsiderate to other people and has no companions. When she makes companions, in any case, she starts to change.
She makes connections to other people and comes to adore Martha and Dickon. She loves to play with others and assists Colin with arriving at his maximum capacity.
Fellowship changed the two of them. Once desolate and troubled, they are blissful and satisfied toward the book's end.

A. America is my country. B. Is that to have here or take away?
C. Yes, I’d love to. D. Good idea
Answer:
C
Explanation:
Yes i'd love to
Answer: B
Explanation: Americano, is the type of drink ordered in a resturaunt. You would ask if you want to drink now or to take it with you.
Which of these introductory paragraphs is missing a thesis statement?
A- Lori Lanson wrote, “The city, no matter how small, is corrupt and unrepentant, while the sun shines brighter in the country, making people more wholesome.” Like the writer, some people think living in the country is better than living in the city. Others disagree, believing that the city is full of excitement, diversity, and opportunities. When deciding whether to live in the country or the city, first consider the pros and cons of living in each environment.
B- Did you know that there are over 33 grams of sugar in a can of soda? That is over the daily limit of total sugar for most people. So if just having one can of soda can put you over your daily limit, think about how all the sugar in cookies, candy, and other treats can add up. The average American has up to 82 grams of sugar each day. That's almost three times the recommended amount! Americans consume large amounts of sugar in their daily diets, which leads to a variety of health problems.
C- Go outside on a windy day and you can feel the power of the energy of the future. Wind energy is created by using large wind turbines which changes the energy from the wind into electricity to power our homes and workplaces. Wind power is available every day of the year, rain or shine. A large fan, called a wind turbine, is made up of a blade, a rotor, a drive train, a tower, and other things like electrical wires.
D- clenched stomach; tight, painful shoulders and neck; a racing mind. These are just a few of the symptoms of stress that many people feel on a daily basis. The pressures of work, school, and relationships can affect our bodies and our minds. Fortunately, we can counteract these negative symptoms. Mindfulness techniques, such as daily meditation, have been proven to increase wellbeing and reduce stress, illness, and disease. People should consider making daily habits out of these helpful practices.
Answer:
A.
Explanation:
Method of Elimination:
B. B starts off with a hook which are included in thesis statements to literally hook in the reader. The question, "Did you know that there are over 33 grams of sugar in a can of soda?" is meant to hook in the reader because it acts as a did you know fact, so that the reader can give more of their attention to the article.
C. C starts us off with another form of a hook. "Go outside on a windy day and you can feel the power of the energy of the future." This one is telling us to do something but we aren't actually going to do it, at that moment so it's doing it for us. The statement is basically hooking in the reader so that way they might want to learn more about the topic of Wind Energy and how it works. It's kind of like click bait except it's not in the title.
D. Lastly, D is yet another form of a hook. This one though is different because it gives us examples of the symptoms of stress before it even introduces the subject. Well, this could be the introduction of a subject but it's just not your usual way of going about one. When the author brings up these symptoms they are hooking us in by making us think, "have I ever experienced any of these?" So, D foreshadows the topic but first makes the reader think about the subject which they might have a relation to.
Why the answer is in fact, A:
A starts us off with a direct quote from the author which isn't what you'd call the norm for a thesis statement. This quote fits better in a claim paragraph or a rebuttal paragraph because it's supposed to support a claim that is made in the thesis statement. So, to sum this up the reason why A is missing it's thesis statement is because quotes belong in the body paragraphs and they are supposed to support the claim which can be found in the hook.

No one knows exactly when the first people came to the Guadalupe Mountains in far west Texas, but archaeological evidence dates back over 10,000 years ago. The earliest inhabitants were hunter-gathers who followed available game and ripening vegetation. They lived in and among the many caves and alcoves common throughout the range. Scattered evidence of their existence, including projectile points, baskets, pottery, and rock art has been found throughout the mountain range.
Since then, many different groups have moved in and out of the area, including the Spanish who arrived by the mid 1500s. There is little evidence of any attempts on their part to penetrate the Guadalupes. No large-scale settlements have been located. Their influence was significant, though, because they introduced horses into the area. For the bands of Apaches who roamed freely over much of the southwest, horses quickly became an asset to their nomadic lifestyle. The Mescalero Apaches followed game, much as the earlier peoples had done, and they also harvested the agave (or mescal) for food and fiber. Mescalero is name given to them by the Spanish. It means mescal-maker. Agave roasting pits and other remains of Mescalero campsites are common in mountains.
Prior to the mid 1800's, the Guadalupes remained an unchallenged sanctuary for the Mescalero Apaches. But newly established transportation routes, and the end of the Civil War, encouraged droves of pioneers, homesteaders, miners, and numerous others to head west. In the mid 1800s, explorers were commissioned to look for possible emigrant routes to the west. The proposed transcontinental railroad expected to follow one of these routes. Although these surveying expeditions would never lead to a railroad through Guadalupe Pass, they did provide the first extensive studies of the Guadalupe region.
In 1858, a horse-changing station was constructed near Pine Springs for the Butterfield Overland Mail. To protect their investments, the stage line and settlers in the area demanded protection from the military. Several cavalry troops were ordered in and out of the area to halt Indian raids and secure settlements along the stage route. In the winter of 1869, troops lead by Lt. H.B. Cushing penetrated the Guadalupes and destroyed two primary Apache camps. These aggressive actions were devastating to the Mescaleros who were already facing food shortages within their increasingly limited land base. They were eventually driven out of the Guadalupes. By the late 1800's, nearly all of the surviving Mescalero Apaches in the United States were living on reservations.
Permanent settlements in the Guadalupes were not common though, even after the final displacement of the Mescaleros. The Butterfield stage route through the Guadalupes was abandoned in less than a year for a more favorable course along a string of army forts to the south. Most settlers found the range (and its limited water sources) too rugged and inhospitable. The first permanent ranch house was constructed in 1876 by the Rader brothers. Now called Frijole Ranch, it served as residence for several families through the years. And, as the only major building complex in the region (for several decades), it served as a community center and regional post office from 1916-1942. Today, the Frijole Ranch House has been restored and operates as a cultural museum.
In what two ways does the second paragraph contribute to the development of ideas in the passage?
It describes how the Mescalero Apaches were friends with the Spanish.
It explains the effect that Spaniards had on the region.
It provides reasons for the decline of the Mescalero Apaches.
