Help Me With This Please , It Easy My Brain Cells Rant Working

Answers

Answer 1
I would select B as my answer. D is wrong because is is redundant. C is wrong because you are talking to the reader. A could be a possibility but in that sentence the subject is already established at the start of the sentence so you don’t need to specify “the story”.
Answer 2

Answer:

The answer is 2.

Explanation:

In the question te ask you to replace the word, or pronoun "it" e.g in number 1 change "it" to "the story", 2 change "it" to "a great book", 3 change "it" to "people", 4 change "it" to "a good adventure".

Number 1 cannot work because mentioning the word "story" twice in sentence [B] does not make the story clearer or "clearest".

Number 3 also cannot work because changing "you" in sentence [E] to "people" does not change the meaning of the sentence.

Finaly number 4 reapeting "a good adventure" will not make sense in sentence [E].

I hope this answers your question.

D). Memmott explains that the tragedy is not well known today and then shows why it is worth remembering.

Mark Memmott

In these passages, Mark Memmott develops the main idea by elaborating that the tragedy is not popularly recognized in the present and then, displays the reason of it being worthy of being recalled.

Both the passages provide details to accomplish the idea that present people are not much aware of it and are "long forgotten."

Therefore, it must be recalled so that people can be aware of it and understand it effectively.

The question is incomplete. The complete question is as follows:

Read the excerpt from "Remembering to Never Forget: Dominican Republic's 'Parsley Massacre'" by Mark Memmott.

Passage A:

This week, people from around the world are expected to gather in the Dominican Republic for a "Border of Lights" commemoration that aims to "honor a tragedy long forgotten, and unknown to many people."

Passage B:

Trujillo, as the Border of Lights website explains, fed and nurtured anti-Haitian sentiment and created an atmosphere that still excludes ethnic Haitians from becoming part of "the Dominican melting pot."

The method his soldiers used in 1937 to try to identify those who would be killed was cruelly unique. When confronting someone in the lands along the border with Haiti, they would hold up a sprig of parsley and ask what it was. If the person responded by trilling the "r" in perejil (Spanish for parsley), he would be free to go. Anyone who didn't trill the "r" was thought to be a Haitian Creole speaker—and was likely to be killed.

How do these excerpts work together to develop a central idea?

Memmott uses a specific example to describe Trujillo's cruelty.

Memmott argues that all memories should be commemorated.

Memmott explains that the Border of Lights commemoration is an adequate way of honoring victims.

Memmott explains that the tragedy is not well known today and then shows why it is worth remembering.

Read the excerpt from Story of My Life by Helen Keller. We walked down the path to the well-house, attracted by the fragrance of the honeysuckle with which it was covered. Some one was drawing water and my teacher placed my hand under the spout. As the cool stream gushed over one hand she spelled into the other the word water, first slowly, then rapidly. I stood still, my whole attention fixed upon the motions of her fingers. Suddenly I felt a misty consciousness as of something forgotten—a thrill of returning thought; and somehow the mystery of language was revealed to me. I knew then that "w-a-t-e-r" meant the wonderful cool something that was flowing over my hand. That living word awakened my soul, gave it light, hope, joy, set it free! There were barriers still, it is true, but barriers that could in time be swept away. Which line from the excerpt is an important detail that would be included in a summary of the excerpt? Civil Disobedience

Part 1

Most people remember Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as reformers who practiced non-violent forms of protest and advocacy. Both effectively changed the popular opinion about emotional issues for their countries and brought in a wave of change that was long overdue. But the practice of non-violent protest, or civil disobedience, started long before either Gandhi or King. It began with a quiet, shy poet who is best known for writing a lot about a pond.

Henry David Thoreau lived from 1817 until 1862, mainly in the area of Concord, Massachusetts. The issue that would tear the country apart in the 1860s had already begun dividing the nation. Thoreau was only 14 when Nat Turner led the slave rebellion in Virginia and was later hanged. In his late 20s, Thoreau began speaking against slavery in public, echoing the voices of freedmen like Frederick Douglass and Lewis Hayden.

Thoreau believed that a government that supported slavery was corrupt and immoral. He was also deeply suspicious of government. For these and other reasons, Thoreau refused to pay his poll tax for a number of years. The poll tax was a legal tax owed by every person. It was basically a tax on one's body. After not paying for years, he was at last arrested. He spent only one night in jail, however, as a relative paid the tax for him. He was reportedly furious that any tax was paid on his behalf.

It was this experience that Thoreau wrote about in an essay called "Civil Disobedience." In this essay, he argued that being moral and just came before allegiance to government. He wrote “If the machine of government is of such a nature that it requires you to be the agent of injustice to another, then, I say, break the law." He also felt that voting was not enough to ensure that the right thing be done. He wrote that "even voting for the right is doing nothing for it… A wise man will not leave the right to the mercy of chance…" He felt that one had a moral responsibility to resist unjust laws.

Read this line from the third paragraph:

For these and other reasons, Thoreau refused to pay his poll tax for a number of years.

How does this sentence prepare readers for the final line of the paragraph?

It lets readers know his refusal to pay wasn't just a passing idea.
It lets readers know Thoreau was a thoughtful man.
It tells readers his reasons for refusal were not important.
It tells readers why Thoreau was not arrested for so long.

1. What conclusion can be drawn from the author's use of the word pollution in paragraph 4?
A Hester's community is physically dirty.
B Hester's soul is morally unclean.
C Hester's situation has resulted from a lack of discipline.
D Hester's shame has spread to others in the village.

Answers

Answer:

B Hester's soul is morally unclean.

Explanation:

The mystery of the woman's soul was described as sacred even in its pollution. The woman in this instance, whose sin was to be judged by the young Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale was Hester Prynne.  Her soul was morally unclean given the sin she committed. That was why the author used the word pollution to describe it.

She was accused of adultery which resulted in a child and her sin was to be judged by the Reverend. Her husband was away for three years in Amsterdam, leaving her alone in Boston and this exposed her to the temptation which she succumbed to.

Read the following excerpt from an article about etiquette.

To a great extent, the art of writing thank-you notes has surrendered to impersonal forms of technology. However, the effect of a handwritten note simply cannot be duplicated by a tactless e-mail or a hurried phone call. A written thank-you note shows the care and the effort put forth by the writer because a note requires thought as well as time. Writing a note demonstrates that the gift recipient appreciates the giver's thoughtfulness. In contrast, an e-mail or a phone call may be more convenient for the gift recipient, but these methods do not show the same level of consideration and appreciation as a thank-you note. Both methods lack the attention that a gift—no matter its size—properly deserves. Therefore, a handwritten thank-you note is able to convey gratitude that far exceeds hasty technology.

In the article, the writer's diction
A.
communicates the author's frustration and despair in how people choose to correspond with one another.
B.
stresses the extreme importance of saying thank-you for gifts that come in any size or manner to a person.
C.
expresses how effective conveying sincere gratitude and appreciation toward another person can be.
D.
shows the contrast between her perception of handwritten thank-you notes and technological forms of thank-you.
