AMERICA HAS IGNORED GEORGE WASHINGTON’S ADVICE

America’s first president George Washington delivered a farewell address to the nation on September 17, 1796. In it he made suggestions and issued some warnings. America has ignored all of them. They were the following.

1. Maintain national unity.

For Washington the unity of our national government provides tranquility, happiness, peace, safety and prosperity. Today we have deep cultural divisions in America that are rending our national unity.

2. Adhere to the Constitution.

Washington warned that some who seek power will usurp for themselves the reins of government. He warned that they will subvert the Constitution in order to undermine that which cannot be overthrown. Many American presidents have abused the power of executive order in order to get what they want.

3. Avoid political parties.

Washington warned that political parties are a danger to the state because they take issues to excess. The Republican and Democratic parties today have caused gridlock in congress.

4. Religion and morality are important.

Washington believed religion and morality are indispensable supports. Today in America religion is often reviled and pernicious pleasure-seeking utilitarian immorality is on the rise.

5. Keep the national debt low.

Washington warned us to cherish public credit, to use it sparingly and to avoid the accumulation of debt. The Federal debt today is approaching 20 trillion dollars with no sign of abating.

6. Maintain neutrality and avoid alliances.

Washington believed avoiding entangling alliances would keep us from being embroiled in wars. Global Research* has pointed out that America has been at war 222 out of 239 years since 1776 or 93% of the time. It has been at peace for only 21 years and the only 5 year period it went without war was during the isolationist period of the Great Depression (1935-1940).

in my thought I think this is my answer in explanation

Explanation:

Geography was first systematically studied by the ancient Greeks, who also developed a philosophy of geography; Thales of Miletus, Herodotus, Eratosthenes, Aristotle, Strabo, and Ptolemy made major contributions to geography. The Roman contribution to geography was in the exploration and mapping of previously unknown lands. Greek geographic learning was maintained and enhanced by the Arabs during the Middle Ages. Arab geographers, among whom Idrisi, Ibn Battutah, and Ibn Khaldun are prominent, traveled extensively for the purpose of increasing their knowledge of the world. The journeys of Marco Polo in the latter part of the Middle Ages began the revival of geographic interest outside the Muslim world.

Explain how the Americans went from lands controlled by European colonizers to multiple independent states

Answers

Answer:

The vast majority of the Americas were controlled by European states until the late 18th century. The only exceptions were a few areas in the extreme geographical points of the continent, like Patagonia in South America, or Northern Canada.

Explanation:

Slowly, people from the Americas began to rebel against the European colonizers. The first were the Americans in the English colonies, who founded the United States. The Haitians in the island of Hispaniola followed soon, rebelling against the French. In the following decades, the lands dominated by the Spanish Empire rebelled, and by 1830, Spain had lost all its former colonies but Cuba and Puerto Rico.

By the end of the 19th century, there were very few colonies in the Americas, mostly small Caribbean Islands, some of which are still colonies.

1. How does the author characterize the
United States position in the global
economy compared to its past position?

Answers

Answer:s the United States enters the 21st century, it stands unchallenged as the world’s economic leader, a remarkable turnaround from the 1980s when many Americans had doubts about U.S. “competitiveness.” Productivity growth—the engine of improvement in average living standards—has rebounded from a 25-year slump of a little more than 1 percent a year to roughly 2.5 percent since 1995, a gain few had predicted.

Economic engagement with the rest of the world has played a key part in the U.S. economic revival. Our relatively open borders, which permit most foreign goods to come in with a zero or low tariff, have helped keep inflation in check, allowing the Federal Reserve to let the good times roll without hiking up interest rates as quickly as it might otherwise have done. Indeed, the influx of funds from abroad during the Asian financial crisis kept interest rates low and thereby encouraged a continued boom in investment and consumption, which more than offset any decline in American exports to Asia. Even so, during the 1990s, exports accounted for almost a quarter of the growth of output (though just 12 percent of U.S. gross domestic product at the end of the decade).

Yet as the new century dawns, America’s increasing economic interdependence with the rest of the world, known loosely as “globalization,” has come under attack. Much of the criticism is aimed at two international institutions that the United States helped create and lead: the International Monetary Fund, launched after World War II to provide emergency loans to countries with temporary balance-of-payments problems, and the World Trade Organization, created in 1995 during the last round of world trade negotiations, primarily to help settle trade disputes among countries.

The attacks on both institutions are varied and often inconsistent. But they clearly have taken their toll. For all practical purposes, the IMF is not likely to have its resources augmented any time soon by Congress (and thus by other national governments). Meanwhile, the failure of the WTO meetings in Seattle last December to produce even a roadmap for future trade negotiations—coupled with the protests that soiled the proceedings—has thrown a wrench into plans to reduce remaining barriers to world trade and investment.

For better or worse, it is now up to the United States, as it has been since World War II, to help shape the future of both organizations and arguably the course of the global economy. A broad consensus appears to exist here and elsewhere that governments should strive to improve the stability of the world economy and to advance living standards. But the consensus breaks down over how to do so. As the United States prepares to pick a new president and a new Congress, citizens and policymakers should be asking how best to promote stability and growth in the years ahead.
