The reaction is going to be the same as after being hospitalized for the summer after his best friend commits death, Charlie who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

He fears being referred to as the weird kid who was hospitalized for the summer and not having any friends. Charlie’s anxiety goes back to the primary traumatic event in his life, the death of his Aunt Helen. Charlie’s Aunt was killed during a car accident when he was a young boy. She was on her thanks to getting him a surprise and he has always felt it was his fault that she was in the car. He idolized his Aunt and needs her to be there to comfort him as he struggles with starting high school. On his first day of faculty, he meets Mr. Anderson, an English teacher, who becomes his mentor and provides him with books to read. Many of his old acquaintances act as if he doesn’t exist and he eats lunch alone a day until he goes to a football game where he meets Patrick and Sam, two seniors. Charlie is instantly interested in Sam.

Charlie feels better after being reunited together with his friends and the flashbacks of his Aunt Helen stop. It isn’t until Sam leaves for school after they have the flashbacks come back that Charlie has a breakdown. He calls his sister rambling about how his Aunt’s death is his fault and he features a blackout. This episode leads to his being readmitted to the psychiatric hospital where he meets Dr. Burton. With the assistance of Dr. Burton, Charlie is in a position to revisit the memories he has been suppressing about how his Aunt abused him when he was a small boy. Charlie doesn’t enter into detail about being hospitalized but he says the worse day is when the doctor told his parents what Aunt Helen did to him. He returns home to his family and continues to work out with Dr. Burton in outpatient care.

Throughout the movie, we see Charlie develop friendships. It's when his support group is the strongest that his symptoms subside. When his support group leaves him, we see him struggle the foremost with flashbacks. Charlie felt closest to Sam because it appears that she was abused . Thus, the relationship with Sam most likely triggered the memory of what his Aunt did to him that resulted in his blackout and hospitalization.

Text: "In the One-Eyed Giant's Cave" by Homer
Describe how Homer develops Odysseus's character throughout the passage. Then
analyze how his characterization of Odysseus affects the way the audience relates
to the character. Be sure to use specific details from the text to support your ideas.

Answers

In the One-Eyed Giant's Cave, Homer portrays Odysseus as both a smarts and brands kind of man. He's both physically complete as well as veritably intelligent and good with quick thinking in high pressure situations. But he also can be veritably foolish. For illustration when he taunts the Cyclops Pholyfemus. Odysseus is a well advanced character that's fluently relatable to. You either wish you could be him or detest him.

What are the character traits of Odysseus ?

Odysseus has the defining character traits of a proud leader, strength, courage, nobility, a thirst for glory, and confidence in his authority. His most identifying particularity, still, is his sharp intellect. Odysseus’s quick thinking helps him out of some veritably tough situations, as when he escapes from the delve of the Cyclops in Book 9, or when he hides his bloodbath of the suitors by having his poet strike up a marriage tune in Book 23.

He's also a satisfying, eloquent speaker and can win over or manipulate his followership with ease. When he first addresses Nausicaa on the islet of Scheria, for illustration, his debonair, comforting approach snappily wins her trust.

Like other proud icons , Odysseus longs to win kleos( “ glory ” won through great deeds), but he also wishes to complete his nostos( “ homecoming ”). He enjoys his luxurious life with Calypso in an fantastic land, but only to a point. ultimately, he wants to return home, indeed though he admits that his woman

can not compare with Calypso. He thinks of home throughout the time he spends with the Phaeacians and also while on Circe’s islet. occasionally his glory- seeking gets in the way of his home- seeking, still. He sacks the land of the Cicones but loses men and time in the process.

He waits too long in the delve of Polyphemus, enjoying the free milk and rubbish he finds, and is trapped there when the Cyclops returns.

proud characters are generally stationary. Though they may be veritably complex and realistic, they don't change over the course of the work as characters in ultramodern novels and stories do.

Odysseus and especially Telemachus break this rule. Beforehand in his adventures, Odysseus’s love of glory prompts him to reveal his identity to the Cyclops and bring Poseidon’s wrath down on him. By the end of the epic, he seems much more willing to temper pride with tolerance.

Disguised as a beggar, he doesn't incontinently reply to the abuse he receives from the suitors. rather, he endures it until the traps he has set and the commitment he has secured put him in a position from which he can strike back effectively.

Good Diet, Proper Exercise Help Protect Astronauts' Bones

by Bill Jeffs

1 Eating right and exercising hard in space helps protect International Space Station astronauts’ bones, a finding that may help solve one of the key problems facing future explorers heading beyond low Earth orbit.

2 A study, published in the September 2012 issue of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, looked at the mineral density of specific bones as well as the entire skeleton of astronauts who used a new, stronger "weight lifting" machine. Of course, weights don't really "weigh" anything on the space station but resistance machines allow astronauts to get the same kind of workout. The Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED), installed in 2008, doubles the maximum simulated weight to as much as 600 pounds.

3 Researchers compared measurements from 2006 until 2008, when astronauts used a less capable workout machine. They found that astronauts using the advanced system came home with more lean muscle and less fat, and kept more of their whole body and regional bone mineral density. Those same astronauts also consumed sufficient calories and vitamin D, among other nutrients. These factors are known to support bone health and likely played a contributing role.

4 "After 51 years of human spaceflight, these data mark the first significant progress in protecting bone through diet and exercise," said Dr. Scott M. Smith, NASA nutritionist at the agency's Johnson Space Center in Houston and lead author of the publication.

5 Since the 1990s, resistance exercise has been thought to be a key method of protecting astronauts' bones. Normal, healthy bone constantly breaks down and renews itself, a process called remodeling. As long as these processes are in balance, bone mass and density stay the same. Earlier studies of Russian Mir space station residents found an increased rate of breakdown, but little change in the rate of regrowth, resulting in an overall loss in bone density.

6 In the study, astronauts who used the ARED device still had increased bone breakdown, but their bone renewal tended to increase, likely resulting in a better balance in whole bone mineral density.

7 "The increase in both bone breakdown and formation suggests that the bone is being remodeled, but a key question remains as to whether this remodeled bone is as strong as the bone before flight," said Dr. Jean Sibonga, NASA bone discipline lead at Johnson and coauthor of the study.
8 Bone density loss in astronauts on long-duration missions has been a major medical concern. In the past, astronauts have lost an average of 1 to 2 percent per month. By comparison, an elderly person loses about 1 to 2 percent per year.

9 This study shows that, through proper exercise and nutrition, crew members on long journeys in space can return to Earth with much less loss of bone mineral density. But a key question remains as to whether the bones are as strong as when the astronaut launched into space. For these and other reasons, additional studies to evaluate bone strength before and after flight are currently under way.

10 Beyond bone strength, further study is needed to figure out the best possible combination of exercise and diet for long-duration crews. One experiment on the space station right now is looking at how different ratios of animal protein and potassium in the diet affect bone health. Another is looking at the benefits of lowering sodium intake. NASA food scientists have reformulated more than 80 space foods to reduce the sodium content.

11 "Although more research needs to be done in this regard, our study marks a significant milestone in our long search to find ways to help ensure crew health and performance on long-duration missions," said Smith. "These data will be critical in enabling us to send humans, once again, to destinations beyond low Earth orbit."

Which two details from the article most help develop a claim the author makes about astronaut's use of the ARED device?
"...looked at the mineral density of specific bones as well as the entire skeleton..." (paragraph 2)

"...came home with more lean muscle and less fat..." (paragraph 3)

"...likely played a contributing role." (paragraph 3)

"...bone mass and density stay the same..." (paragraph 5)

"...constantly breaks down and renews itself..." (paragraph 5)
