What is American Romanticism ?

American history was very rich during the 19th century. The United States was still developing its own identity and culture in the years after the American Revolution and the War of 1812. This period, which is known historically as the Romantic Era, had a significant impact on American thought and is credited with defining what it means "to be an American."

A literary and artistic movement known as romanticism, more commonly known as The Romantic Era, was born in Europe and eventually made its way to the United States, where it flourished. At first, Romanticism was a response to both Industrialism and the constrictive neoclassical notions of the previous Enlightenment period. It rejected concepts of modernity, rationalism, and religious dogmatism in favor of emphasizing personal feeling, self-discovery, and the value and beauty of the natural world. During this time, emotion took precedence over logic and self-expression was favored over conventional restraint.

The first significant literary movement to ever take place in the United States was American Romanticism in American literature. Because American writers and artists were looking for a uniquely "American" voice during this time, distinct from that of their British and European contemporaries, the Romantic Era in the United States came to be known as the "American Renaissance."

Dear diary,
It was the 3rd of November. A wintery and very cold day. I couldn’t wait to go and see the rest of the dogs at work. I got to work and gave Butch, Bruno, Hermione and Emily all their breakfast’s. At about 9:00am I got a phone call off a old resident near the old abandoned house. “There’s a dog with no collar, it’s a German shepherd”. Me and Hayley got our gear and I drove out to this destination, we arrived at the old abandoned house and at first the dog was no where to be seen we were starting to think this was a hoax. After about 20 minutes of searching the area we saw the dog. It’s was lay down in the grass and was quite well hidden as of it didn’t want to be found. I got some treats out and threw them over to the dog who looked quite petrified. At first the dog didn’t want to come near us and so we let it take it’s time to earn our trust. I carefully moved towards the dog and it’s mouth opened and the dog started to growl. I knew at this moment this dog was going to be hard to tame. I tried to get my leash around the dogs neck but every time I threw it towards the dog’s neck the dog would bark and snarl at me. As I moved closer the dog made it aware that this was my last warning before it attacks. But me doing my job moved closer. The dog pounced at mw and bit me. Luckily I didn’t get hurt as I had protective clothes on. After about 5 mins I managed to take the dog and to stop the dog from biting I also used a mussle just for safety. We shortly left and went back to the centre where the rest of the dogs were waiting. A few days went by and this dog started to calm down and actually let me stroke it. We took the dog to the vets and found that it was a boy and so I named him Buck because he was quite defensive and I knew it was the right name for him. I turned the tv on that day and on the news was Buck “this dog has escaped from the garden and will not be tamed by anyone other than the rightful owner. I instantly felt honoured becuase I had tamed Buck. I immediately rang the contact details and arranged for them to come and take their dog back to its home. After that I was quite lost I felt like a part of me was missing. That’s all for now
